bad weld?

Featured Replies

I've got this loud clicking noise coming from inside the b-pillar (passenger side) when the chassis flexes. It's really irritating and quite loud, sounds like a metal clicking noise. I've stripped the b-pillar & seatbelt out and still can't find anything loose which could be causing this. When it's colder at night, it's pretty silent, but during the day if its warm, the noise goes haywire.

Has anyone else had this? My mechanic friend also had a look/listen/poke 'n prod and the only thing he could suggest was a bad weld. I'm toying with the idea of getting him to weld all the seams up good and proper. Driving me nuts

I've noticed the exact same thing on my car over the past few days and can't think what the hell it is ?

It seems to have just magically appeared :@

I'd try adjusting the door striker before looking for bad welds.

thanks, I will try adjusting the striker. The door shuts properly though, and the striker is solid, as is everything else inside the pillar.

On the way to work this morning (8 degrees), it didn't click once. On the way home last night (17 degrees), it was noisy as hell. We're gonna have another look tonight, ram everything up with mastic and silicone spray. If all else fails I might resort to filling the pillar cavity with sound insulation where possible. Grrrrr

It's probably not the same noise.... but I think there must be a roof lining clip right above the drivers seat / B pillar that crackles and Pops in my car when the heat goes up.

A solid push on the curved edge just behind the grab handle normally shuts it up for a few days..

Also, slightly un related... but does anyone else think "Bad Weld" sounds like an 80's rock band?

door striker adjusted, rattle is gone!

Peace perfect peace until my ears get tuned into the next rattle. I'm gonna have this car totally rattle free soon :)

Now you've got me wondering if that's what I'm hearing and it's just pure chance that the few times I've pushed the roof it's stopped. I've got a rattle from the fuse fuse box that goes when you shove ya fingers between the dash and door. Wonder if it's the same thing? Hmmm....

HAHAHA.......how long have you got??????.....I gave up on most of the "minor" noises B)

First you will feel like :swear: , then you will get a bit :wall: , until you go :@ !!! And then the men in white coats will come and :x

Sorry for sounding dumb here but what is the door striker ?

Is it the latch on the B pillar ? How have you adjusted it exactly ?

Door stricker is the nice chrome "U" bar on the body work that the door latches onto. To adjust you will see some lines stamped into the face of the bracket for the "U" bolt...mark the existing ones CL to CL and then loosen the bolts and move the bracket and then move the bracket/plate and retighten bolts B)

Glad the advice helped.
