reprogramming keys

Featured Replies

Can anybody tell me if a new barrel and key combo will be plug and play? Or will it require programming of some sort?

I've seen the details on here of how to reprogram a remote fob etc but there's no remote locking on the car, just central via the key.

Thanks

The transponders will need coding unless you take the transponder out of the head of your old key and put it in the new one.

Will this still be the same if the 'new' key is second hand?

Thanks

Yes same case.

The reason i ask was because the guy i was going to buy the second hand key and barrel off says you can't reprogram second hand keys and that swappnig the transponder will not work.

....... yes because that's the best way to sell parts. Even if you bought a key and barrel off him, how was it going to match your ecu if it wasn't reprogrammed?

Ok, I see what your saying about selling more parts. But are you saying that if i need to change the key it will mean changing the ecu, clocks, the lot?

No you just need to reprogram your key or use the transponder from your old key.
