MDI problems

Featured Replies

Hi all.

I've had my Fabia VRS for just over 2 months now and enjoying using the MDI interface although it appears to have a bit of an odd fault.

It's the iPod cable and I've tried my iPhone, iPad and the wifes iPhone.. all with the same problem:

While playing music, at random its almost like someones going at the music with a pitch bender. It only happens for a few seconds at a time and can go days or weeks without happening, although sometimes it'll happen every 30 seconds or so. I've already had the Aux in socket changed as it only worked on one channel.

Has anyone else had a similar problem? Is it a known issue?

Thanks all.

You say it's like someone going at the music with a pitch bender. Would you also describe the noise as though it was a tape being played on a Walkman when the batteries were going flat? This is something I've noticed on my wife's new Fabia Monte Carlo and I've searched various forums for an answer but alas none so far. I'm awaiting delivery of a Superb Estate with MDI to try each other's cables and see if this a cable fault or something more sinister. I'm hoping it's no more than a cable fault as I've had Dension iPod links in previous VAG group cars without a worry, so hope the OEM solution is better!

Yep exactly that mate! I considered buying a new cable off ebay and trying it, let me know how you get on with the Superb and cables... if its a cable fault I may buy one of the USB interface cables and a harddrive, if its the head unit... well the car will have to go in eh.

I have similar problems. I thought it was the speakers. Now the MDI has died. Does not appear in the media screen of the Columbus.

Into the dealer time.

i have the midi cable for my ipod and i get the same problem. Also i have the midi usb cable and i dont get this problem, i have a 16 gig stick and i find its easier to manage and find music using the head unit as the ipod takes ages to scroll through music.

I have the same problem with my iPhone 4 - "blender"noise. Totally random. The other problem is that sometimes the audio is played slow - sounds like an old tape player with a bad cassette tape! Will raise this with dealer when I take it in for a service..

Possibly something wrong with your MDI dock. BTW I know VW post firmware updates on their german website for MEDIA-IN, havent checked but perhaps Skoda do the same thing?

I had some issues with the MDI on my Golf, updated the firmware and is much better now.

Anyone know which (if any) of the 4 cables Skoda can supply will connect a sony MP3 via MDI?
