Bug Splatter

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I hope someone can point me in the direction of a resonably priced, but good, bug remover. My old octy 1 hardly ever suffered - perhaps the winter salt dissolved them. With the new to me mk2, I am trying to be more concientious but a recent 3 week trip into France and Germany has the front completely covered.

I do have a powerwasher, but feel that close range at max pressure might do more harm than good. Similarly, in my hands, an abrasive is perhaps not such a good idea. I don't want to add to the scratches in the clearcoat where someone has attacked bird poo.

Thanks, Nick

Soak an old towel in warm water. Lay it over the affected area for 30 minutes and you will find the bugs easier to wash off.

Hi,

Thanks guys. Will try them out when I get the chance.

Neat snowfoam in a spray will do it too.

Once it is clean again get a good coat of wax on the car, this will make the removal of them much easier - and protect the paint from the bird poo (which will attack the lacquer permanently, marking it)

Personally I use FK1000P (the tin is massive and will last most people almost a lifetime).

Yup, I suppose prevention would be better than hacking away at the mess with a brillo pad. The first octavia got washed regularly. Just before the holidays. The paint on this one looks like it will need a bit more tlc. I normally snow foam then 2bm, finsh off with a detail spray and a waffle towel. Still reasonably shiny and beads a little.

I may have a bottle of autoglym srp cowering in the shed (is polish like wine - improves with age? vintage circa 2000). Is it worth using an intermediate stage? Is one neccesary? If so what?

The colour is anthracite btw.

Autoglym Insect Remover, spray on, leave for 30 seconds then blast off with your jet wash. Repeat if required, simples!!
