Calling all Sach's Owners!

Featured Replies

Im getting to the stage well really my next mod has to be the clutch. Ive read on the forum all about the single mass conversions, because they can run massive how power, although they can damage the gearbox??? (What ive read)

However!! Is it more relistic to run a Dual Mass with an uprated sach's clutch. My future mods will be pd150 turbo and fmic but the car will be tuned for reliable power NOT big xxxxxxBHP numbers.

All help would be so appreciated espically from the Sach owners

Personally I couldn't live with the clatter an SMF introduces at idle. Smooth map and OEM clutch is enough.

Sachs will be fine

What if you want more power?

All bullpoop aside they all wish they had went for the helix and smf

When i had my hybrid i just couldnt wait to ditch the sachs and get a proper meaty clutch in there with loads of feel and bite :)

Just my opinion

I'm guessing that with a PD150 turbo and FMIC, you'll be looking around 190bhp/320lbft, similar to what I got from my old PD150 Leon when it was mapped? In that case, Sachs + DMF will be fine, that's the setup the Leon had and it felt exactly like OEM except a little bit harder. I chose that setup after a bit of research as I didn't want either the noise of an SMF nor the harsh on/off of a paddle clutch, so Sachs + new DMF seemed the way forward.

The same Sachs clutch is on the hybrid Fabia I've just bought, the clutch since Jan 09 with the original flywheel and the hybrid since Aug 09, and it seems to be handling that power fine so far (although at 400lbft across the range it's probably about all the clutch is rated for), though the invoices don't seem to have milages so I dunno how many miles it's covered.

Well yer I would be looking at around 200bhp and around 330lbft of torque but the way the car feels and drives is more improtant to me. So sachs looks like a good option but is it worth replacing the original flywheel. If thats the case that brings me back onto the helix single conversion. A sachs clutch, dmf and clutch release bearing will cost about £800?? (If thats right) :'( massively confused)

I blew a new dmf up after 25k at a measly 195bhp

Depends on the milage and the wear. I had my Leon remapped at around 100k to the levels I mentioned (hence why I assume the PD130 engine with PD150 turbo and FMIC will basically be the same as a Leon engine), and by 105k I'd made the clutch start slipping. It wasn't bad but I wanted to get it done while I had the money, and my mechanic recommended I change the flywheel as well due to the milage and it was only another £250 on the cost while everything was apart. Otherwise, I could have fitted a £700 clutch, paid £200 for fitting, and then the flywheel could have broken and taken the whole lot out and needed to repurchase everything! So since I was already spending a shedload, I got the flywheel done as well for peace of mind. Once I'd had the clutch changed the pedal feel while driving was almost exactly like OEM, the pedal stiffened up a bit after the change but the Leon had done a ton of miles anyway so I just put that down to the clutch being new.

Can't comment on SMF, just the noise put me off, I didn't think I could be doing with it in my daily driver. I'm told it's the way to go for very high levels of power, but from what I read on forums when I was researching my (expensive) clutch purchase, DMFs aren't as bad as some people think, and by getting an SMF you're possibly causing other problems due to the vibrations anyway.

Pretty good going! My DMF covered about 30k and was still fine in my Leon with similar power. Depends on driving style and conditions I guess, a lot of my miles were easy commuting down the M1.

Mine had to have the torque on my map limited to protect the DMF (in fairness its done 152,000 miles). However, i`v just got a SMF to go in, then i can floor it without worrying what rev`s it`s at etc. If you can afford it, go for the helix without a doubt, will be money well spent.

Matt

Likewise around 80% commuting!

Did 2 1/4 mile days and it was fried

That must be the difference then, mine was never launched hard. Well, not quarter-mile hard anyway, it got a bit of stick on the road when the opportunity arose but that's still pussyfooting around compared to a launch up the strip!

It had been chattering for around 5k and when it went it took the box with it

So i uprated to helix and smf, needed a new box too :o

I certainly wont be driven like that, it will just be a great little B road blaster. It will never see a track and I certainly dont do burnouts or hard launchers
