Cheap and nasty or not?

Featured Replies

If your looking for budget coilovers go for the JOM ones... A lot of people use them on here and can't give them enough praise.

Where can I get them

From?

Damping is NOT independently adjustable on these kits, though the lower you go height wise the harder the ride.

Clearly know **** all about coil overs. They shouldn't be any harder at all unless they are on the bump stops as neither the spring rate or damping rate changes. If anything the reverse is true, the further you wind the platform down the more relaxed the spring is.

yes true the spring rate is the same but in theory the overall wheel rate should decrease (ie suspension gets softer albiet a tiny amount) because the axis of the track control arm and damper don't intersect in the same place... the damper is not vertical, dropping the ride height will make the damper marginally more vertical by a tiny amount and therfore the wheel has more leverage over the spring.. for the overall rate to stay linear the damper axis would have to intersect on the wheel centreline (which is impossible with macpherson type)

i'd have to dust off some old suspension geometry books and check out the diagrams and formulae to prove it.... but tbh the effect is so smalll it's not worth worrying about

edit: in answer to the op.. yes they are rubbish.. try and get something with stainless steel bodies otherwise the adjuster thead for the lower spring platforms fluff up and rust away and generally sieze up solid.. although i've found that a good coverage of copperslip can prevent this but it looks horrid

The only coil-overs that are worth it are expensive ones which use two springs (main spring and tender spring) don't get the ones that have a main spring and helper spring! Or just get a set of Koni FSD dampers and a set of Eibach springs!! B)
