2004 octavia 1.9 tdi rear springs

Featured Replies

Hi all i've got a late 2004 octavia hatchback 1.9 tdi ( new shape) & i need to change the rear coil springs, i was wondering if anyone can advise me on the best & cheapest place to get the springs, but also the easiest way of changing them, do i need spring clamps ? any help would be gratefully received thanks.

Unlike the VRS which are main dealer or TPS only, you can get standard tdi springs from most motor factors. You don't need spring clamps to replace the rear springs.

To change them, put the rear of the car on axle stands and put a jack under the rear beam. Undo the shock absorber mounting bolt and the whole beam can then be swivelled down and the spring will fall out.

pauldazzle, rk696 Thanks very much for the help guys much appreciated emoticon-0100-smile.gif

Just realised you said new shape octavia in your post.

Do you have a MK2 new shape one? because you have posted in the MK1 section.

If it is a MK2, it isn't as easy, as they use independent rear suspension, rather than the trailing beam the MK1 has.

rk696 Yes mine is a MK2 just got around to changing the springs it was so easy it only took me 45 minutes, same sort of princible except you remove the rear suspension nut & bolt just below the shock absorber, it's possibly easier than a MK1 because you only have to worry about lining one at a time up. emoticon-0144-nod.gif
