Worn bearing sound when aircon turned off!

Featured Replies

Hi

I'm getting a worn bearing sound (metallic rubbing sound) for a few seconds when aircon turned on or off!. Its a 08 rs diesel. Any ideas what this could be and how much it would cost to fix?

Cheers

Had something similar on a 1998 Renault Laguna. A regass appeared to fix it, unfortunatly the seals had dried out and within a few months another regass was needed. Seals go replaced but badly which let water into the alloy housing causing corrosion on the surface the seals goes against so ended up needing a new aircon pump. Never got one fitted as I was quoted £600 for the pump plus fitting + regas + VAT. As the car was only woth £2K I ran the car for the next 4 years with poor mans aircon.

Is your car still under warrenty?

If so, might be worth trying to get it done that way. My Toyota is 11 yeasr and has no aircon problems. My old Escort Cosworth is still going strong in the aircon department according to the new owners and that is 18 years old. Air con units should last the life of the car if serviced properly.

I think Skoda recommend an air con service every 2 years now. I had the same issue as yourself and the service sorted it out.

Cheers for that guys. I'll give skoda a call and book it in for an aircon service. What's involved in that?

From memory I think they checked the whole system and lubricated the pulley and bearings and then cleaned the system and a re-gas.

Cost me £69 Inc vat from my local dealer.

I think i saw Pilsen doing one for €65 somewhere, maybe on vagdrivers
