Problems with my steering on my Fabi 1.4 mpi w reg

Featured Replies

Can anyone help me?

I've had some problems with my steering recentley! I have a W 2000 reg Skoda Fabia 1.4 mpi. 54000 moiles.

When driving slowly and turning, the steering is really stiff. So much so, that you have to really pull on the steering to pull into a road, or onto my drive.

It has gradually got worse!

I can also feel it whilst driving, not as bad, but its noticeable.

I would appreceate any comments people may have. I've got a bad feeling that this could get quite expensive! :0(

Kind regards, Lilly!

Sounds like the steering angle sensor has given up. This is fixed to the steering column (engine bay side). B)

Thank you! My steering is now fixed (fingers crossed). It turned out it was one of the connectors. It had caroded. Cleaned it up and added fluid to the power steering reservoir which was low and the steering has never felt better.

Thanks again! It saved me a huge garage bill.

Although I now have another problem with it starting! Not every time, just when it feels like it! Don't you just love cars!

Battery is only a couple of years old. Its a Bosch also.

The starting problem is a bit strange (to me anyway). The car turns over fine, but won't fire up. When the ignition is switched on there are no usual warning/check lights. Just the milage and time display. I have wiggled some wires under the bonnet and eventually lights are displayed again and the car fires up.

Its not all the time, but when it does happen it is always of a morning.

I'm not sure if me moving the wires works, or its just a coincidence.

I've never had this problem before.

It seems when I fix one another one appears!

So when you turn the key in the ignition (but not the engine on) the warning check lights on the dash do not cycle???? Very strange.....the only thing that I can think of is a bad connection/water ingress into the main engine ecu connection block that is at the back of the engine bay on the passenger side!!! To disconnect this tho' it is better to disconnect the main battery first (15mins before). There is a slide lock collar/clip on the ecu connector....have a look at the pins etc to make sure all ok! The starting problem is described as same as what I had the solution is the temperature sensor ,changed it and never had that problem again :)

Funny, mine had a few little tantrums where it refused to start, though only very occasionally. Not happened since i replaced the thermostat and temp sensor. No idea if the two are related though.
