vRS Lowering springs options and advice

Featured Replies

Well after a month of owning the vRS (MK1) the ride is sometimes unbearable. Its way too bouncy, it makes an awful crashing sound when you accidentally run over a pothole or a slight ramp in the road. It's really ruining the experience of the new car. I've been advised that the front shocks have been replaced with OE eqivalent Bilsteins, not uprated, just equivalent. The rear shocks are standard. It has some lowering springs on the car, but the brand is unknown and they have been on the car for 4 or more years. Dave at BVR automotive suggested they were a cheap set of springs as the paint has flaked off them and they dont look too attractive. If anyone could help me in identifying the springs, I would be very grateful.

So it's time to shop around for a new set of springs, but I need advice on which ones to go for. Aiming for improved ride and comfort aswell as a nice drop. Heard good things about the Eibachs and H&R springs. Any other suggestions?

Go for Eibachs if you want springs, though at least one person on here runs H&R and rates them highly. Sounds like the springs on the car at the moment are too hard, making them crashy and bouncy. Mine's a little bouncy on Eibachs, because I'm running the standard dampers and they're not matched. It's still a huge improvement over the standard setup though, with less roll, and the car doesn't pitch on accelerating and braking any more. At the cost of dampers, and you might be better looking at coilovers maybe?

Update on this is I've just got back from A-line in Dudley (top guys who know their atuff and stupidly cheap). There is way too much negative camber on the passenger side, around -4 degrees. They say its more than likely going to be a bent shocker, but are surprised the car strays to the left and when hard accelerating pulls to the left hard. But back in 2009, both front shocks and lower arms were replaced. So could it be something else, or was the previous owner constantly hitting the kerb!

Eibachs are the best springs to get, and if you want dampers I have Koni FSD dampers with Skoda springs....and bloody good!!!! But I'm not a lowered VRS...so don't know if Koni do FSD for VRS?? If they do get them, and fit with Eibach springs B) !!!

It's definitely gonna need new shocks unless there could be another reason for the camber problem?
