rear-facing Baby seat in mk1 vrs

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

first baby is due in october and as a bit of preparedness, we ventured to mothecare to look at prams / car seats that would fit in our '06 rs.

as the isofix points are low down in the car and the back seats are quite sloped, the sales person was unwilling to sell us a seat as none fitted safely.

we tried isofix and seatbelt held seats in the reart passenger seat and they were a bit dodgy. none i was happy for putting a newborn in.

any ideas?

replacing the rear bench with a standard one would remove the slope, but again this isn;t ideal.

Iv just changed to a forward facing seat in my 55vrs n i had a mothercare chocolate or sumit travel pram so was a rear facing seat, i strapped it in, on the side it tells you the right angle and mine was secure and safe, mothercare diddnt fit mine though, hope this helps, be wary of the boot tho its smaller than it looks i have to put pushchair at an angle so it will fit, jst check itl fit before asy shopping 9 times outa ten ended being put on rear seat because of pushchair, good luck though :)

Hi my boy is 3 weeks old I bought a pram and car seat combo (babystyle oyster) tried the car seat (non isofix) in mine an wasn't happy with the way it fitted so went trying others and settled for the recaro young profi plus isofix much more secure fit and now have piece of mind that's in proper, the isofix lugs are quite low but it's ok when you got them locked in. I also have leather so bought a mat to sit underneath to protect the seat from indentations

I've used the Recaro seat too.

Not as expensive as it sounds and I was very impressed with it.

We purchased the Mothercare Spin with a Maxi-Cosi Cabriofix car seat. The Cabriofix fits using the seatbelt and has worked fine in the few times its been used in the vRS.

IMO sadly the Fabia is a tad too small to cope with a baby and the amount of gear that you'll constantly have in the car :(

Maxi-Cosi here too!

Matt

But kids grow fast! You'll find as they grow you need to carry less & less stuff!

My son was 2 when I got my Fabia, Yes the buggy took up most of the boot, But by the time he was 3 the buggy went and he walked to and from the car, Problem solved!

Prior to the Fabia we solely used SWMBO's Ignis to transport the wee guy!

holy crap gareth 1.8t thats what we brought the spin and the maxi cosi!!! bloody brill, seems a bit odd that you cant find any, its just i got my car seat from mothercare? Only thing is the seat belt is just too short.

That's cool Mike - I guess different people and kids require/need different items. And as you say, different (less hopefully) items are needed as the child grows.

I've found that my wife would always take soooo much stuff in the car (most of which wasn't needed, but i'm sure that most of us fellas would have a job to even politely point this out to swmbo), that it would have overfilled the little fabia. This taught me a valuable lesson - never attempt to argue with a woman who has recently endured a long labour!

Thankfully, we have a qashqai (which at times has struggled) so the fabia has never been used for its intended purpose as a small family car.

I actually sold my fully loaded (and tastefuly modded B) ) 3dr A3 S-line 2.0TFSI (when we discovered that the wife was pregnant) to purchase the fabia as I felt 5 doors would be essential for a baby. Turned out the the wife decided that the vRS would not be big enough and went out a purchased the qashqai anyway! This rendered me stuck with the vRS and you lot on here! :p

The spin is an awesome device - people will look at you with awe and jealousy when you're out at the shops and rolling with that B)

Seriously, it is fantastic!

Agreed with the seatbelt - you find yourself tilting the seat a little to get the belt to fit. Feels odd at first, but you get used to it. The Maxi Cosi is also an outstanding seat in terms of comfort and, more importantly, safety for the baby's head & neck.
