One smashed window...

Featured Replies

Today I had the bad luck to become the victim of theft. They smashed the passenger window and stole my PIONEER AVH-4200DVD which for almost 2 years I've been enjoying. In the process they badly injured the plastics around the unit including the door and glove compartment. Cops were called, the insurance company came to record the state of the car and from Monday I will find out to what extend they can cover the damages made to the car including the stolen unit. I don't get fussed about the lost unit, statistically something like this bounds to happen but the mess and time spend is so annoying. :(

It was a bad day and I'm very tired but now I will drink my beer, smoke a cigarette and enjoy the almost summery night.

Sorry to hear that mate, hope it gets sorted, your cars a beauty!

sorry to hear that mate i hope you get it sorted, i once had this happen and they caused more damage breaking in than they stole bloody chavs.

:( seems like its been a bad day for us both.

Sorry to hear this mate, it's horrible when this happens.

Hope it gets sorted soon

How annoying is that, some w****r did the same to my wifes car a few years ago. It's probably bought the smackhead that did it about 20 quids worth of heroin and cost you far more to replace not to mention the hassle and cleaning bits of glass out of your car for the next few months.

It's really sad to hear this so of thing happening :(

As you say its not the theft, its just the hassle and seeing your pride and joy attacked.

I feel for you mate, its happened to me twice in succession.

To make things worse they didnt just steal my headunit but also my amps and sub.... both times.

Heres the rub, the car i had at the time was a renault megane coupe, after the 2nd time i bought a bmw M5 (2001 E39) this was back in 2006, that car never got broken into and was sat in the same space for another year.

In the meantime all the french and japanese cars in my car park were all robbed or vandalised, but the merc's and bmw's were never touched.

I guess its because the security inside the higher end cars is a pain, or maybe they feel guilty damaging more expensive cars???

Sorry to hear of what scumbag has done to your car, hope it gets sorted quickly.

Sorry to hear the news. Hope it gets sorted and the thieves caught and flogged..

Thanks guys for the support  last night I had probably one of the deepest sleeps. All the tiredness and emotions eventually knocked me to bed. Anyways I'm ok, I have accepted the whole thing and I only want to quickly sort things out and put the situation behind me.

It is clear that thieves are not dettered by car alarms and other security messures in case they realize there is something worth stealing - they will take their chances. The theft was done in broad daylight which shows how bold they are these days and the alarm going off didn't bother them at all. It seems also that time is a key factor and I believe that they probably broke in and steal the unit in under 2mins max.

I will probably drive around for the next few weeks with my old Dance radio until I get something proper.

I wonder though if I go for a 2Din screen system like my previous how can I at least make it not seen from the outside? You see these units don't have a cover or they don't retract inside unfortunately.

Anyways I'll keep you posted. Fingers crossed this goes by quickly and not with too much expense.

so sorry to hear of your bad news, these chavs should be put against a wall so we can hurl rocks at them(not the drug rock cocaine),standard in built units are protected and retros generally arn't get a top not skoda system fitted it will be coded to the car, plenty on ebay at great prices,so sorry mate they make more mess than the value of these headers, just stand outside car and offer the units to them rather than smashing there way in, its the only way Oh or wire the car into the mains electric that will give em a shock :o

Fair play to you mate, you seem to be more relaxed about it than most people would be.

Like you said, hopefully insurance covers it and all you have to deal with is the hassle of getting things tidied up and replaced.

Was this on the road outside your house?

Hope everything gets sorted for you buddy

Indeed I'm abnormally calm about the whole thing. I hope it stays like that as I don't need any more anxiety. My work gives me plenty :giggle:

The car was parked right outside my friend's mechanic shop. We left it there to get with his pick up truck a set of garden chairs and a table that I had recently ordered. The car was left alone for a couple of hours and unfortunately too far from the CCTV entrance cameras to the shop.

Now I wish I had left it inside but can't keep thinking stuff like that, ie. "What if..." Etc etc.

Another sad crime statistic. Really feel for you mate.

.. but the mess and time spend is so annoying. :(

What ****es me off is the amount of damage people do to steal something that at the end of the day will be worth very little.

Years ago we had a radio stolen from a golf. They'd tried to force the lock (breaking it) , force open the door (damaging the from of the back door and the back of the front door) and then having failed to do either of those, smashed the front window. Then they broke the dashboard getting the radio out.

All for something that would have been worth about £10 when sold on.

W*nkers!
