Mouting Dash Camera

Featured Replies

Just how do you guys mount your cameras to your dash?

I've just bought myself one of these little cameras, and had a go at mounting it to the dash yesterday.

It comes with a little mount with 2 screw holes in, I'm a bit loathed to screw anything into the dash as the screw holes will then be there forever. I tried blu-tacking the mount to the dash, which seemed sturdy enough when I first put it on, but well the end result is below. I suspect the textured dash of the Fabia isn't really ideal for sticking anything to it.

After my failed first attempt I stuck it to the back of the rear view mirror with some double sided tape, which fared much better, except it's almost impossible to see where you're aiming it until you're reviewing the footage later.

Anyone with any ideas?

I had/have one of those, pretty good until it stopped charging for some reason :( They're also not v size friendly for grabbing things or mounting things I found. You could bluetac/double sided sticky pad the mount and stick it onto the window upside-down perhaps by the mirror?

Im currently toying with the phone (which uses a sucker on the window and clamps the phone) using clever apps they have on them, found one which records 3 sections of e.g. 60 sec clips, if the accelerometer is above a certain g- it will save all three files, else it would overwrite them.

Another one I found incorporates gps/accelorometer and will record your video laptime/speed/g's etc. around a lap.. :D I just need a track to test it on now.

Daft Punk - good choice...

I might see if I can get it to hang below the mirror. Maybe with a little extension or something.

Last time I tried that with my phone, the video was useless as it was one of those extended movable arm cradles, and it just vibrated everywhere.

That camera looks the same as the Muvi we have, just rebadged. They make an extreme sports pack which gives better fixing options - we got it from Amazon. HTH

Would a couple of elastic bands around the mirror and camera be any good??

Right, I had another go at this, I taped the clip mount to the back of the mirror with doubled sided foam tape then hung the camera upside down from that.

It worked pretty well, the only problem is when the video is flipped back, the date/time is now the wrong way round. I need to figure out how to stop it stamping it in the first place. Considering the state of the roads, and going over the level crossing, it damps out the vibrations pretty well.

Iirc the time stamp removal is removing the hidden date files on the SD card or something. However I think reversal or reset is near impossible.

Bit of luck with this tonight.

I've been playing about with VirtualDub, and found a filter that removes the date/time stamp pretty well. Here is a link to it.

This is the end result which I'm quite pleased with for £9
