just cleaned it for now... is the gasket to be fitted between EGR and the pipe it's connected to?

the valve is only less than 15mm so not sure how 14,5mm would make a difference

You need the 9mm gasket, drill to 11-12mm to avoid a CEL for insufficient EGR gas flow.

does it (the gasket) go onto the exhaust manifold side? There are 2 bolts I can see, but the heads are inverted so I Can't see them... is this the place? My gasket is due to arrive on Tuesday... dealers we're out of stock in M'cr area

Easier to do it on the EGR end.

what is the reasoning behind the smaller gasket if you put it next to the EGR? if you take the EGR off, the movable piston (EGR valve) has only about 15mm or less in diameter, if I stick gasket with a 12mm hole in it I won't make a big differene. If I was going to use 14,5mm as the dealer it would be as big as the EGR piston, so pointless fitting it at that place.

many say it has to be on the exhaust side to work well....it sort of makes sense as it creates a distriction to the pipe at the far end...

The reasoning is that it works. The EGR pipe is just that, a pipe. Stick a restriction on it at either end and it has a similar result, reduced flow.

The many are wrong.

I took the EGR and ASV apart again to fit the new gasket last night...it was 9mm, but I have drilled it to 12mm.

What a difference, engine has no stutter at all, feels smoother. But the EML came on, so will need to be mapped out. Can't believe how much a £3 gasket changed the running of the car
