Stuttery BLT engine - dealer fix?

Featured Replies

Ive only had my VRS for a few weeks and am really happy, however its a 2006 model with the stuttery BLT engine.

I spoke to my local dealer who denied all knowledge of the problem so i called Skoda UK who are also currently denying any problem exists!

I know the fix and can easily do it myself but id like Skoda to fix the problem they know about.

I gave them the exact description right down to the part number of the replacement gasket and referred them to this site and they still deny knowledge.

Has anyone had their car fixed at a dealer recently?

I have a 2007 BLT, can you explain the problem and the fix please?

Mines juddery as hell but never realised that it was a problem.

Thanks

Beat me to it :)

haha great minds think a like ;)

Happens to mine once in a blue moon and is more likely to happen if I haven't driven it for a few days. You learn to drive around it and it really hasn't been a problem for the 3 years I've had the car.

such an easy fix

Be advised that altering the gasket may throw up a warning light. One of my warning lights intermittently came on several months after changing to the stutterfree gasket. For the last 6 months or more it's been permanently on, even after clearing the EGR fault on VAGCOM. Suspect the EGR valve needs a clean out.

The bad news is all warning lights are apparently going to be MOT failures even if they can be explained, so it may be a case of going back to the original or dealer fix gasket next year and back to the stutter. Boo!

It's a 10 min fix but I would advise drilling the hole to 11.5mm.

After doing the 9mm gasket on mine it put the EML on a few days later so was told to drill it to 11.5mm and had no problems since

or get the other gasket from a vw dealer, cant remember what size...

Best get one of these gaskets what's the part no

A re-map made the stutter quite a bit worse for me, so I fitted the 9mm gasket as per the posted guide. I had no light on the dash and never noticed the stutter again.

You will need to get yourself a 9mm opening gasket (figure 2) – VAG Part Number 028 131 547 B from any VAG dealer which should cost around £1.73.

I used this and had no light come on... 3 years on no problems.

As mentioned best to look here:

I spoke to my local dealer who denied all knowledge of the problem so i called Skoda UK who are also currently denying any problem exists!

My local Skoda dealer said they were not allowed to do the 9mm gasket mod anymore to BLT engines, and to make sure they complied Skoda UK had put a block on the parts ordering system to stop them from ordering the 9mm gasket !!!

No such problems at TPS though lol.

Best £1:70 I've ever spent on a car, its been a 100% fix and not put on any warning lights.

Just make sure you fit the 9mm gasket in the correct location ie; the exhaust manifold flange end of the link pipe and not at the EGR valve.

Bill.

My mates Dad bought a fabia vRS a few months back due to him being impressed with mine. He decided to buy one from the local dealer, rather than travelling miles to get one, and thought the warranty was a good idea too. Trouble is, he is experiencing exactly the same problems as yourself, and they deny all knowledge of it, even though there is a part available.

Now they are suspecting other parts are at fault (DMF for one) and want him to stump up some of the money to fix that problem first. I have told him I will help fitting the gasket at home, and just not bother with the dealer, but he does not want to upset the warranty in case something else goes wrong. So as you have probably guessed, he still has the stutter, and has got nowhere with them.

Yeah i tried the dealer for one a couple of months ago even though my stutter isnt bad at all. Gave them that exact part number and the part that came in was the standard gasket :/ I guess TPS is the only option.

What or who are TPS?

As I would like to do this mod.

Thanks

I was promised a call back from Skoda customer services today but, unsuprisingly it never came. Looks like its a DIY job.

Can i purchase the correct gasket from a VW dealer if Skoda wont supply them?

From memory, I bought my gasket from Seat as Skoda had stopped suppling that particular part number. I think Skoda recommended drilling out to 14.5mm to stay Euro IV compliant. I drilled mine out to 14mm - problem solved. IIRC the 9mm gasket tended to throw up a CEL light. I would drill out to at least 12mm to be one the safe side.

Yes you can, TPS also sell the correct genuine VAG gasket.

VAG part number 028131547B

Bill

just go to your local vw dealer and order : 028 131 547 B

i did this to mine about a week ago and it cost me £2.20 inc vat and the cars drives like a dream now and no warning lights what so ever.

also did this yesturday car feels totally different now, no stutter at all. didnt bother drilling out left it at 9mm no cel light come on yet though

I'd drill it out, running the 9mm will eventually bring the CEL light on and I've heard rumours any engine light on may fail an MOT in the near future. My car didn't throw up the fault light for months after having mine done, and even then it was intermittent and seemed to go away after some more spirited driving. But now it is lit permanently and comes on immediately even after clearing fault code for EGR reading. I'm going to have my EGR and inlet cleaned out to see if that solves things, if not may just get it swapped back to 14mm or drill out the 9mm.
