Wheelspin in vRS PD

Featured Replies

So I've had the car for a month now; it's a fantastic motor B) Coming from a BMW 118d, I'm shocked that I can still get the same mpg :giggle: despite being quicker, slightly heavier and not having stop start

Just one question: I'm sure wheelspin in 1st gear is normal in the dry, but is it also normal in 2nd? This is normal driving, pulling away gently then applying full throttle in either gear. I've got toyo t1rs on the front, so decent tyres. I've no problem if the car does, I'll just modulate the throttle. However I'm suspicious as to whether it may have been remapped?

My Fabia in the wet on an incline and giving it plenty of the right foot.emoticon-0136-giggle.gif ASR on/ off no effect !!

Cheers

Anyone else?

my old PD140 octavia would do it in first and second, so I can only assume its worse in the PD170.

in my experience i found T1Rs to be the worst tyre i have had. I would never have them again.

Hi,

Had michelin exalto and pilot sport 2s on the front feet of our old pd 170 vrs and yes it does wheelspin in 1st and 2nd! Was going up a hill from a standing start at traffic lights in Glasgow City Centre one day and I thought I broke the flippin thing, severe thrashing around of front tyres. You soon readjust your driving style. Has never occured on the cr engine we have currently.

I had this problem with the Bridgestones RE050 Potenza tyres that were on the car when I bought it. Since then I've swopped to SC3's and the car has alot more torque now then it did with the RE050's and I no longer have this problem.

Yes quite normal, just wait till you have to pull out of an uphill junction in the damp on a 40 limit road when there are corners quite near the junction itself and visibilty isn't that great....

Just takes a little getting used to not using full throttle to harshly on wet roads.

Cheers guys B)

I wouldn't buy the Toyos myself either. Might get it remapped now then  The shove in higher gears must be great!

The all or nothing nature of the PD engine is one of the big reasons I changed from the PD engine to the CR engine in Elsie the Helipad. I have not had any issues now with the front end not doing what I really wanted it to do. I guess the 4x4 helps as wellemoticon-0100-smile.gif

Ive got a PD 4x4, no probs

Our Mk 1 Octy Pd wopuld spin 1st,2nd & 3rd in the wet, mind you Jabba had tweaked the map

Mines only a PD140, but there must be something up with it as it takes bags of throttle before releasing the clutch

to get any form of wheelspin even in first !

My PD140 (Shark Stage 1) will do it in 1st and 2nd no problems if you boot it in the dry.

A Whiteline Anti Lift Kit will help massively apparently.

Also, get some good tyres. I have switched to Yokohama as I have never had a bad set, much grippier than the Michelin OEM tyres, especially in the wet.

Yoko's hardly seem to get a mention on here, but I have used them on and off for years on lots of different cars and have always been impressed by them.

Can be quite scary the first time the traction control kicks in to try and limit the wheelspin - I tend to turn it off unless I am high speed driving.

My PD140 would do it in first even if already moving, simply bury the throttle in the carpet at any speed at the front would lose traction.

PD170 Leon here, 1st,2nd and 3rd sometimes :giggle:

Hmm, can't say mine has ever done that since I bought it at 60K. Anything that can cause it that isn't cover in the normal service schedule ?

Onto 117k now, Fulled serviced, but still original turbo, clutch, DMF, so not complaining about lack of wheelspin !

Late as usual. Gave it some wellie the other night in second coming out of a roundabout, TCS light flashing, put it in third still with plenty of wellie and lit up again.

So wheelspin in the dry in third from a PD140!

My old PD100 Passat was an embarrassing sod for spinning wheels away from road junctions- the PD140 seems a much easier setup to avoid excess tyre wear.

Surely it must be your tyres. I've got near as dammit 340 LB FT of torque in my Octavia and it won't spin the wheels in third. Not in the dry anyway :)
