Bonnet Catch - Electronics??

Featured Replies

Was looking at my Octavia's Bonnet catch.... there are two wires running to it... one being the release cable the other being an electrical wire attaching to a sensor of some sorts.... anyone have any ideas what this is??? (and no i don't have an alarm which is what i first thought)

I haven't noticed it myself but could it be something to do with the 'doors open' indicator which lights up on the dashboard? :)

Yeah I think thats right, may also have some effect on the wipers but im not 100% on the Octavia I.

Nope neither.... its really bugging me now!! its ones of those things that i dont need to know, but want to know now im thinking about it!

I shall endeavour to find out.

Could it be something to do with 'earthing' so you don't get static shocks when opening the bonnet?

i'm sure i reply'd to this earlier

anyway, i think it may be for a factory fit alarm, i know that all cat 1 alarms i have had in the past have had bonnet sensors on the car

Ah thinking about it now... could be the alarm which i dismissed as i dont have one.... car is proberbally pre-wired incase alarm was opted for as an extra. hmmmm now.... to make use of existing wiring and add an alarm...!

It's not for an alarm or for I think an open door indicator and you won't find it on pre 01 model year Octavias. When the oil level drops the oil light glows orange, if you open the bonnet so as to top the oil up the light will go out, if you didn't top the oil up the light will come back on within about 100 miles.

Ah more clever stuff! Gd idea that.

I thought it was even more twisted than that. Heard somewhere that it logs the number of times you open / close the bonnet and stores that in the ECU somewhere. Mostly applicable for variable servicing but I don't see how
