Question about the LED DRLs and the Parking lights

Featured Replies

Hi to all. First i want to introduce myself. I am from Bulgaria and 1 week ago i bought my 3rd Skoda - this time it's Octavia vRS TDI-CR - Race blue. I am very happy with the car but have some questions.

When the lights are in Auto mode - during the day, only the LED DRLs are working - they light at 100%. When it gets darker - the low beams (Xenon AFS2) turn on, and then the LED DRLs go i think 30-40% of their optimal working mode. Is there a way, i can change this and when on low beams - to have the LED DRLs working at 100% ? I have VAG COM Cable and today i searched the whole Ross Tech software - but didn't find how to change this setting.

The second question is - how can i turn on the small W5W lamps (i think they are called parking lights) They are small blue W5W lamps and after many attempts, i didn't see them working. Is it possible to enable them? I tried on AUTO mode, on Manual mode, on any mode - but they don't turn on. Is it this way, because i have LED DRLs and these lamps bulbs are useless ? If this is it - why do they mount them ? I know it sounds a little bit strange, but after 1 week of attempts - i started thinking this.

Any information will be useful. Thank you in advance :)

And here is my new baby :) I am very excited - it is just awesome....

The DRLs dip for a reason when the other lights are on. This is because they are bright so they can be seen in the sunlight so if they remained at 100% in the dark (i.e. when you use the other lights) then they would be too bright and dazzle other users. So even if you could change them to 100% (and I do not think you can) then I would not as it would be a hazard to other road users. Also there is no way to enable the sidelights as there is no cabling to them on the VRS, the DRLs dip and act as sidelights instead.

Welcome dude your English is better than mine!! But your taste in Race Blue 2011 Octavia VRS TDi CR is identical :D:thumbup:  I see that you get a different radio in Bulgaria :( and they have put the steering wheel in the correct place unlike here in the UK where we have to be different B)

I agree with PSM above the DRL's are set to lower in brightness for good reason in rain especially they would be even worse for oncoming drivers at night!

Enjoy the new wheels and keep us updated with anything your doing to the car :D always nice to see the BEST colour possible lots of pics on here

Hi guys, thanks for the replies. Yes you are right about the LED DRLs - i didn't think for them at the point of view of the oncomming drivers. In this case i don't want to change this setting. But it still seems a little bit strange the idea with the side lights. I clearly see that there is a bulb in the body, and i see that it is a blue one instead of the normal white one (i think they put blue ones on cars fitted with Xenon systems). If they are useless - and there is no cabling - why do they pyt bulbs (and especially blue one)? Anyway, i will keep you guys informed because i think of some interesting mods and will post info here.

The Stereo is the ordinary SWING - i did not order the more expensive Bolero or Columbus because i will retrofit a Double Din NAV - with many extras. That is why i did not want to spend money for something i will never use.

The car is equipped with Rear wiper, ESP with XDS, Xenon with AFS2 - the light beam is moving in the direction of cornering (it is very convinient and usefull), Alarm function, Rubber carpet in the trunk, 18'' and other options. I think (and am already working on it) of full change of all the speakers. Front line will be Hertz HSK 163 component system with full noise and vibration isolation with STP material in all the 4 doors (+ in the trunk, the rear wheel covers, front wheel covers and some other places). I already did the driver door. The 3 component system sounds just awesome - centuries better than the stock. I managed to find the plastic covers (the one with the sign Sound System) - so the retrofit will look 1:1 with the original Sound system - but much much better. The rear line will be Hertz HSK165L. All they will be powered by Audison amplifier + 12'' in the trunk.

Also i bought a new footrest - from Golf R32 - the same as the aluminnium pedals in vRS.

Will also change the interior lights with one that i made myself - with high power LEDs - and will change the light in the trunk.

Next month will lower the suspension with Eibach Pro Kit...

Together with the sat nav - will also fit a rear view camera.

Yesterday i retrofit footlight - it controls from the maxidot - with capability of changing the intensity (the range is 5-100% ant the step is 5%). I noticed that it works best for me at 30%.

And i think of some other ideas but will share info on a later stage

Thanks for the info again.

Regards.

Xenon with AFS2 - the light beam is moving in the direction of cornering (it is very convinient and usefull)

do u have "bending xenons" or actual AFS2?

best way to check is to look at the actual ring around the projector lens - it will be engraved along the edge.

congrats on ur purchase :)

What is the diffrence between the AFS2 and the Bending Xenons, what exactly is bending xenons?? As far as i know - i have AFS2 - but am not 100% sure. Please explain to me the differences. I will look later this evening for this engravement - it should be "AFS2" sign or anything else?

Thanks in advance.

p.p. I just took a look at my documents - sent from the factory. It is written that i have -

8Q6 Headlight-range adjustment, automatic/ dynamic with fixed and dynamic bending light(AFS 2)

The only thing i need to check is if i have the engravement.

How did you do the footwell lighting? I didn't know that you could retro fit it?

Nice car BTW

Hi jrw

This is one of the easiest things to do. You need to buy additional light devices. I decided not to buy a new one - because they seems to me a little bit expensive.

Here are the original numbers :

000 979 025 This is the cable

7L0 947 415 Normal lamp or 4E0 947 415 (LED lamp from Passat CC or Superb II)

1J0 971 972 (connector for lamp 7L0 947 415) or 4B0 971 832 (connector for led lamp 4E0 947 415)

000 979 131 (contact for connector 1J0 971 972) or 000 979 009 (contact for connector 4B0 971 832)

b2fafd29cf7cd78c41e58461a89756ec.jpg

You should use this connector 000 979 025 and especially - CONTACT POINT 7 (seven):

45b3d1235f95dc8f2e75a87190285c3c.jpg

Then put the lamps at the covers located above the foot - it is very easy - the material is very soft and you can easily make holes for the lamps.

Then using VCDS - enable this function in CAN module :

Now in maxi-dot menu you have the following sub-menu :

e1bd038eb9c84e7f438e4d467fcaaebf.jpg

The photos are not mine - because i didnot make photos while working - forgot my camera :)

I went to a storage outside the city for broken cars and crashed cars - and saw a crashed Audi A8 with LED lamps in the foot. Bought 4 of them for about 6 EUR, together with all the connectors and cables.

It looks awesome in the dark - when open the doors - they light bright - and when close them - they remain on - but with dimming - i chose 30%.

Hope the info is helpfull.

Regards. :)

Fantastic mod!

looks like u have "afs2" :)

"bending xenons", also known as dynamic xenons, can only swivel left, right, up or down.

left, right - with steering & speed input.

up, down - based on car loading. passengers, boot etc etc.

the shutter/cutoff doesn't change.

with afs2, it has the "bending" feature, plus the ability to change the beam pattern, based on driving conditions - highway, rain, city etc etc. it does this by electronically altering the shutter/cutoff shape.

wish we got that option here in oz....sadly not :(
