Headlight question

Featured Replies

I have a problem with my headlight and hope someone can help. I have had a set of HID's in my 2010 Vrs since I got it. Aftermarket kit might I add. Light stopped working last week so ordered replacement bulb. Fitted it this evening but have discovered a problem. On the cable from the ballast is a connector that has two very thin slivers of metal that attach into a black piece of plastic which has black and brown wires going into the headlight. Problem is that it was corroded and rusted and as a result the light still won't work. I guess it could be cut to allow the wires to be exposed to connect onto the metal slivers but is there any easier way or indeed can this little black piece of plastic be bought? It has Hella stamped on it. Any help appreciated.

Bump.....any thoughts?

Is it the harness between the original halogen bulb connector and the ballast or from ballast to bulb?

It is the harness going to the main bulb. Just below the main bulb is two wires that both have silver thin strips of metal that attach into a black piece of plastic that has two wires leading back into the light. It is this connection causing the problem.

That "black piece of plastic" you refer to is what would have originally plugged into the back of a halogen bulb but now it supplies power to your ballast.

The connections are spade connectors. You could easily cut off the original connections and crimp some new ones on they would be the male connectors for the ballast side, on the black plastic piece are female connectors but if you replaced these you'd lost the plastic bit unless Skoda/VAG do a repair kit.

Also I'd be concerned that water is getting inside the headlight unit if these connections have corroded.

Should be sealed.
