Electric Steering Rack

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have been told by 2 garages that the electronic steering rack on my Octavia 2 PDI (140bhp) 2005 , 125,000 miles needs to be replaced. Already had control rods/arms replaced.

The main dealers are quoting £905.00 plus another £250 to fit. I can get a remanufactured one for £400 but would prefer new. I belive this is the same steering rack fitted to MK5 Golf and this is a common fault.

Thanks

Simon

I must admit I had thought that the only difference between the electronic unit and the standard PAS one was that the electronic one uses an electric pump for the hydraulic circuit whereas standard PAS uses a mechanical pump driven by a belt. Of course even were that true it may be a single serviceable part.

That is a a shocker of a repair bill though. I would certainly go for the reconditioned one and save myself £500 but ouch nevertheless.
