Collected my Superb

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I collected my new Skoda Superb on Thursday last.My last Skoda was a 120L and that was some time ago. My last new car was a Fiat Tipo in 1996 so you can imagine the excitement.

I bought the 1.6 tdi Ambition Greenline, colour Black Magic. Cannot get over the extra's and quality of the car for the money. While the 1.6tdi is no wheel spiner it is quick enough for me(51 year old Czech auto fanatic) and the economy is brilliant. Tax is €104 and comprehensive insurance is €345. So I can tax and insure it for approx €150 less than the tax on my previous car a Seat Alhambra.Lookin forward to The Ride:rofl: Can any of you let me know if there is anything I need to look out for on this car.

Regards,

Glad you are enjoying it so far. Gets better still as you get used to the car.

You probably realise by now, but the brakes are awsome- need very gentle touch to give smooth braking

Cant think of anything else to warn you about

I appreciate skocar120 has switched into the Superb range and I am sure you won't regret it for a moment -

I love mine

Has anyone made the switch from a 140 PS diesel to the 1.6CR diesel Greenline II?

I know the power and torque will be down but is there still enough oomph (compared to the 140)that it won't feel

dangerous trying to drag past slower traffic on long single carriageways ? In the 140 it feels very

safe as the power feeds in quickly

Also interested in the comparative fuel economy in similar circumstances of those who have switched

Considering the Greenline next time around as a company car (tax and economy reasons) and wondering how I would

find the switch . Details of any experiences welcome

I'd also be interested in this issue of 140PS CR vs 115PS 1.6.

I've driven a few VAG 1.6 diesels now and not been that impressed tbh.

The worst was an Audi A1, and whilst it was new and the engine was tight I was quite amazed just how hard one had to row it along to keep up with normal flow considering how small a vehicle it is. Frankly the A1 is a complete hoot to drive, closest thing I can recall to my old 205GTI in many ways, but the engine completely spoilt it.

Admittedly if one drove it gently, deliberately gently with economy in mind, one could get extremely good consumption figures, but nothing spectacularly better than a 140PS Bluemotion Passat driven in a similar manner.

If I drove it normally then was within a few mpg of my auto Volvo, which to me sounds a bit poor. Volvo I get, Mid 50s on distance work and mid 40s month in month out mixture of urban, commuting, distance, high 40's when I go onto winter tyres. The A1 got 49, but then it was till squite tight, only 1000 miles on it, but even so :(

Chocaholic, I'm technically going the other way. From an Octy 1.9 TDi (110 or something) to a Superb 2.0 TDi (140) as a company car. I thought long and hard about choosing the 1.6 Greenline Superb but after factoring in that whatever car I decided upon would need to last me 4 years I went for the 2.0 140. OK so it will cost me about £30-40 extra in tax per month (I can live with that) but given that my kids are only ever to get older and requirement more and more stuff to be carried especially on holidays such as bikes etc, I felt that the 140 engine would be better. Pending that I continue to get a reasonable pay rise each year :S of around 1-3% then the tax should equalise itself with the proposed 1% increase in company car tax bandings.

Although my current 1.9 is quite punchy and is OK crusing I sometimes feel I could do with just that bit more to get past things on single carriageways, and when fully loaded you can certainly feel the weight and need to work the engine slightly harder.

MPG wise I regularly get 50-55 (from a 116k engine!) so even with the 140 I would still expect 40-45, if not more.

Thanks Coops !!

My PD140 is up to 36K now and I dont often do a brim to brim actual mpg check. Long term the old maxidot says I get about 48 from mostly local-ish journeys with occasional motorway trek. Best indicated mpg on a long run i got was 60 at indicated 74 mph to Cumbria. Usual for that run is 53-57 dep on traffic (I guess). the 140PS Bluemotion Passat looks attractive as a good compromise between CO2 rating and available oomph - wonder if that engine and technology will come to Superb sometime in next year or so .....Audi & VW CO2 starting to leave Skoda behind but hopefully we will catch up sometime.

Still interested in drivability and real economy of a Greenline 2, if anyone out there has switched from a 140 ps VAG car to the Greenline II.
