Hi all well just got my first Superb mainly to tow my caravan and was a bit disapointed that the IPOD was only a jack plug however i read that I can download my MP3's onto the hard drive so off i went and guess what I couldnt get it to work from a SD card I am not sure how to put the music on to the card do I load the traks or just the album folder. Is ther a site where I can get the instructions for how to do this from the basic start to the listening to my treasured MP3's in the car.

What year is your Superb... I believe the early twin-hatches (well, the Columbus units) only read cards up to 2gb. Might be worth a look

After a firmware upgrade even the earliest columbus can read 32GB cards, mine does and its a 2008 Superb.

As you have an iPOD, I suspect your music is in itunes and therefore not MP3 files unless you have been into itunes settings in the past and altered the default settings. The files themselves will be in your music folder in windows under itunes library \ itunes media and I guess will have an m4a extention. If they have an m4a extension then the columbus cannot play the file, you'll need to re-encode them using another piece of software to MP3 and then copy these to the SD card.

To get full ipod connectivity you can retrofit a MDI kit which will allow you to plug in using the bottom connector and fully control the ipod from the columbus. The kit you can buy from ebay for around £180 or so.

I use this free converter to re-encode m4a files to mp3. You can use iTunes itself, but then you get two copies of everything, so I think a separate converter is better. :)

Hi,

This thread might be of interest to you.... My link

As Argee has indicated its probably to do with the file type. I had that problem too.

Downloaded & paid for a converter ~£16 & hey presto all done & no problems since.

Hi,

I got your private message, but thought it better to reply back here. Anyone having the same trouble in the future can also see the advice, and someone else will probably be able to explain better than me.

First off does your car recognise the card? As someone said before the early ones only worked with 2 gig cards.

Once the car will play directly from the card it is very simple to copy the tracks/albums/folders onto the car, just press the little icon on the screen next to the track/album/folder you want and select COPY from the menu that pops up.

I burnt my collection onto a few DVD's (as MP3s) and copied them from there onto the HDD using the same method.

I have mine stored in folders as Artist \ Album \ Track. So I can find and play stuff.

To get the mix working properly you have to have a track in the root folder, so I have one short track not in any folder at all. When I want to mix the whole HDD (which is what I do most of the time) I simply select this single track, let it start playing and then hit mix. The system will then go off and play something at random.
