After the last few days I thought this poll would make interesting reading.

Feel free also to post how many times you have used method by which you have received advice.

Should be there now :)

I've voted "here" but they are actually two (three) different things. The way I view it is:

1. I ask here first - if it's something I can fix I'll do it myself

2. Then if I can't fix it, it goes to the dealer (but I might give them some hints when I hand the car over)

3. I've never even considered calling Skoda UK - how would they be able to help me?

4. Other=my Dad who has 40 years of experience of tinkering with cars - we bounce problems off each other all the time...

GOTO 1

Good Points :) Nick

Dont forget tho that some people arent lucky enough to have either a father with that experience , or a father that is still around .

Steve

I know how lucky I am :)

pretty much the same for me as it is for nick except its me and my mates rather than me and my dad.

dealer is last resort and infact i don't think i have ever paid a dealer to fix anything. have paid a mechanic a couple times but only because i didn't have the time/tools/facilities to do it myself. if i had the time/space i would give just about anything a go

I chose Briskoda as the car model is a few years old now, most problems have occured before and you always get a consensus.

Not just one persons opinion ie Service manager, who usually is not very techincal.

The worst moment was when I went to the dealer for oil, they didn't stock 1ltrs so he said he would go and see if there was some form of old container that he could put some oil in for me.

It's a high spec oil filtered to a low NAS number and he was going to put it in any old container, I declined his kind offer.

Here first for me - then edaler who has always been very good. Like Nick, im also lucky that my dad also has spent many years doing up cars so can always ask him on mechanical issues (unless its about throttle bodies ... when I go to my brother who is a "throttle body engineer" for Ford in their R&D area :) )
