Parking Sensors

Featured Replies

After reading the forum - especially the post on octavia-vrs.com describing how to remove the bumper from an Octavia - I decided to buy and fit after market parking sensors to my Octavia Estate and I must say I am well pleased!

I went for these from eBay for a little under £14 (including delivery);

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/CAR-PARKING-4-SENSOR-REVERSE-LED-BACKUP-RADAR-SYSTEM-/170628874165?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item27ba45ffb5

I found the instructions clear, if a little pigeon English. The main issue I had was how to get the sensor wires through the bulk head into the back of the car.

I could have botched it a little by somehow feeding the wires through the boot opening and into the back of the car near the rear light cluster but then I read another post about how there was markings on the inside of the bumper showing where the factory fitted sensors would be drilled and so I decided to remove the bumper and do a proper job.

With the very clear instructions on how to remove the bumper on http://www.octavia-vrs.com/cms/content/towbar-install it was a fairly straightforward (if a little daunting at times) process to remove the bumper.

Once removed it was a 5 minute job to drill the holes for the sensors (using the aforementioned markings) and fit them, feeding the wires through the grommet in the spare wheel well.

Then it was just a case of putting the back of the car back together again and the job was a good’un.

I am very pleased with the result - the only thing I didn’t remember was to mark where each of the four sensors where in the bumper but I managed (after a process of elimination to work out which sensor was which) - the kit comes with a display to indicate where the obstacle is.

:rofl:
