slight problem....HELP

Featured Replies

Last night on motorway around 60mph in 6th. Put foot down a little and something started vibrating/rumble.

Smoking from the rear (white) and engine vibrating and sounding like its running on 3.

Got it home and the smoke smells of diesel. There is some oil leaking out of the filler cap and the breather into the intake. It seems to be pressurising the crankcase, dont know why???

It boosts fine so I can cancel out the turbo and the engine when coming down from revs seems like normal. Its just on throttle and idle is the same.

I think a injector has gone and injecting too much fuel causing a unbalance, hence the engine eratic vibration and the white smelling smoke (fuel)

Any one had any problems like this? or heard of the symptoms.

Gave it a scan with VAG com and all seems fine

Help before I give it to a diesel specialist

injector should throw up a fault, does sound like something bad, hope it isnt, with the power an torque your running though wouldnt suprise me something has let go. Good luck hope it aint as bad as it seems

I had a problem with crankcase pressurising - pretty much the only way is exhaust entering the sump via the turbo oil return pipe because the seal on the turbo shaft has gone. Take off the pipe between the air filter and turbo intake pipe and look for exhaust gas/ oil vapours in the pipe while the engine is running.

My turbo was goosed, although if you have a TD turbo its probably ok, but might be worth a check? Somke and excess fuel suggest a rich running engine (i.e. turbo not pushing enough air), which can also cause a bad idle on a hot engine. Having said that, mine idled fine, just wouldn't rev.

Also, turbo won't give ane EML errors util its been driven long enough in that state to upset the MAP sensor. I'd deffinately check turbo.

I'd look at either a blocked breather hose or a failed head gasket as possibilities
