New windscreen

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Mysteriously my VRS has developed a 8 inch crack from the passenger side of the windscreen...there's no obvious stone chip or damage to cause this but it needs replacing!.

Having arranged for this to be done today national windscreens were meant to be here to replace but failed to turn up and only once I had called them did they explain they were running behind so I cancelled them.

My question is all I was asked when I booked with the other company was did I have a sun strip on my car, however from searching here it appears my glass maybe tinted?

Can anyone whose had a replacement confirm this for me and if so what do I ask for when it's replaced, I'm going to be using autoglass if they can come out over the weekend

Screen will be tinted and the sunstrip on the vRS is a different colour to the other models I believe.

If you do a search, I seem to remember someone else having a new screen recently and specifying that it had to be a genuine Skoda one, which the company obtained without any problems.

Yeah, the vRS has a dark grey sunstrip at the top which is only available on genuine skoda (splintex) glass.

Someone on here got one fitted by Autoglass and when he asked them to, they got the genuine one from skoda for no extra charge.

Funny - I had exactly the same happen on my old Fabia. No obvious stone chip - just a cracking sound to start it off and the crack got bigger fairly quickly

Autoglass turned up with a windscreen without the sunstrip for me, despite being told over the phone what was needed. I just accepted it because I wanted to get the car back on the road.

Thanks guys my windscreen at the moment has a definate strip at the top which appears to be polarised as in full sun light it's extremely faint but come late evening it's dark.

It currently has a pilkington screen on at the moment so maybe it's had a new windscreen previously and autoglass couldn't come out as they don't deal with Admiral....bugger!

just insist on a genuine screen - they will moan a bit but can source one if they try
