New brake discs after 2000 miles?

Featured Replies

I've just had my car (Fabia 1.9tdi estate 2007, 25,000miles) MOT'd by Specialist Cars in Aberdeen. They replaced the brake discs less than 2000miles and 1year after they had previously replaced them at the last service. I was told that this is because I don't use the car enough. Has anyone else had or heard of a similar problem?

Never heard of that excuse to rip money off of a customer. I would ask to see the discs and a full report of what they think is wrong with them. The only reasons for changing the discs would be if they were worn down below the allowed thickness, if the surfaces are badly scored or if the discs are distorted.

If they are severely corroded that might warrant their replacement if the corrosion has pitted them.

Thanks. I did ask them to keep the discs so I could see them. They were very slightly scored - I don't know if they would have flattened out again with time and a bit more use, or just got worse? They did say that they could be skimmed, but they don't do it. It probably would have been worth it, but it would have just meant spending more money for a spare set of discs that I don't need, so just put it down to experience.

If they are severely corroded that might warrant their replacement if the corrosion has pitted them.

I have had the same problem with my Merc Sprinter Motor Home, stored all winter without being used and the disc's where badly corroded.
