Bird Poop and Car Colour

Featured Replies

Just a rather light hearted or serious (Water Based Paint!!!) discussion on what colour cars birds like to poop on.

Now, I had my Yeti for over a year, and it has lived outside (like a monster) for over 9 months and the other 4 months, it lives in a cave (OK, an underground car park). When it lives outside, birds seems to bully it a lot and the initial hypothesis that a Yeti would scare other creatures does not hold, I mean birds like to poop on it 2-3 times a day, everyday, and I was told to clean it off promptly, as paint are now water based.

All my previous cars are silver and birds respected them. I would consider aqua blue to be a mix between silver and blue, and after searching on google, it seems that birds like to poop on blue ones, whether it is a Cougar, a Mustang, a Nemo (Finding one), a Partner, a Tigra, a Bluebird, a Fairlady or a Trooper.

So if a Yeti is scray, why would them poop on it?

Birds have small brains (just like our politicians) and they love water. To a simple minded bird, dark colours are often mistaken for water, and as birds try to 'poop' into water, thats why they 'pick' on darker coloured vehicles.

I'm also happy to report that birds ARE scared of the Yeti, and the fact that birds still poop on your Yeti is just like the scenario of us throwing stones at aliens because we're scared of THEM. emoticon-0102-bigsmile.gif

Next week, we'll find out why fire engines are red.............(and yes I DO have an answer to that one emoticon-0110-tongueout.gif

Please direct any further questions to Professor Macdemon. :giggle:

Our Fire Engines up here are white in colour... Apparently more visable and less costly to paint..

I parked Elsie the Helipad under a tree the other day and had to spend 20 minutes afterwards removing all the poop off her. The birds must have been massive and saving it all up for her. It was in a part of London I haven't visited recently. (anerley) wit load of very mature trees, but the birds weren't very mature covering my car......emoticon-0140-rofl.gif

Seen that ad before Trevor, still funny though.

Have you changed your avatar??

Very nice lil pup you have there.

Yes, of course, they are scarred of it and therefore chuck poop at it to scare it off!

I notice when Milhouse (yes, its called Milhouse, because Fuelly wanted a car name, and the Yeti is Blue, wear sort of glasses and is chubby) has face full of bugs - love the bugs he does, birds respect it more.

Are you sure you got the spelling right for the part of London you visited ??

 I had to think about that one for a minute ... I fear the subtlety may be lost on some - but it's brilliant!

My current car is light blue metallic and the birds love it. My Yeti will be Cappuccino, can't wait.

An interesting topic,at least I learned a new word 'bird poop'.:giggle:

I noticed the birds prefer a certain color, because my polo is green ,it suffered much more bird droppings than any car in other colors .:(

Never had a single bird poop on ours...

That's Essex birds for you :giggle:

With my Lifeshine goodies kit a box of Autoglym Bird Dropping Wipes was included - not had any call to use them YET and it's a blue car !

I have a bucket by the gate half filled with water and a large sponge. I then just leave the wet sponge to soak on the offending area for a while after which it comes off easily. Any rubbing will damage the modern water-based paintwork... :)

Sadly, living approximately 200m from the Irish Sea, I think the seagulls round here (who must have have a stomach volume of a bull rhinoceros) think our road is part of a mass daily bombing run!

A 'no bird muck on your car' day round here is almost something to celebrate with a street party. Not that I'm suggesting we have nothing else better to do, we can while the minutes away counting how many boats are out to sea (usually no more than 2 or 3), checking if the IOM (30 miles away) is obscured by the impending rain shower (if it's not already raining) and watching/counting how many hikers are starting the 'Coast to Coast' walk - life is a never ending couldron of fast paced activities and events. :giggle:

Who am I kidding? Please let my Yeti turn up sooner rather than later so I can escape once in a while and 'play' on the 'hills!' emoticon-0106-crying.gif

Yeah, same here, bucket water sponge, we have the double whammy of two large horse chestnut trees and a very large nearby rookery :(. I find there is not quite as much trouble from the chestnut trees when they are in leaf as some of the poop gets caught by the leaves but the rooks deliver a lava like compound that if you leave for more than a few minutes sets like concrete and almost becomes a hammer and chisel job!

So needless to say the car goes straight in the garage when not in use

All the grubby Essex Birds must live near me then

My Muscovado beasty gets peppered wherever I go. What I have noticed is that the sun always comes out afterwards and bakes it solidly on - seemingly every time. It never seems to rain straight afterwards and dilute it a bit!
