What can be done to the standard ICE in a vRS?

Featured Replies

I was just wonderin', as ya do, is there a line out from the back of the standard header unit. I'm thinking of improving my audio with an amp, sub, and some component speakers up front. :)

Yup - there is a connector you can buy which plugs into the back and has preouts front and rear. Its approx

iirc there isnt any pre outs on the back of the standard h/u, only a cd changer socket and the usual cabling.

to be honest the standard h/u puts out such a low wattage per channel your better off spending as little as a hundred notes on a new unit and running that on the standard speakers for a while.

one thing i can tell you though, the build quality of the skoda does hold up very well to a half decent setup and the sound proofing is excellent.

There's no RCA outputs, but there is a pre-out on the blocks with the CD changer and that in them...Bluespot do a connector which plugs into this and has the relevant RCA connectors on it, I believe...

Rob.

it doesnt work

change h/u

dontforget to do the tweeter tricks first...

it doesnt work

Some people have got it working though...

It does work!

It does work!

it may well do but comapired to a proper set up useing RCA i bet it sound poop...

My tips for octy ice...

Ditch stanrd HU and CD changer....repalce with good middle of the road HU

disscounect tweeters in rear doors this is done by taking a wire off the rear speakers

replace front speakers with set of comps

if you want to repalce back ones with comps or co ax

run a 10" or 12" sub

all powered from either on 4 channel amp or two sperate amps 4ch and 2/1 ch

and have fun doing a lovly looking install with teh octys huge boot!

But for those on a small budget or if you want to keep it looking standard so as not to interest thieves it's a good way of upgrading the standard head unit.

Besides - I doubt the Transport, DAC and pre-amp on the standard head unit are that bad. It is the other parts of the factory ICE that contribute more to poop sound..... eg power amp and speakers.

The only extra different with the connector would be about 4 inches of poop RCA cable round the back of the headunit.

It does work!

please post the connector part number... as last time these were tested it resulted in multiple blown amps....?

(not mine)

The suspicion is that this was due to a one-off bespoke crap HU...

I think it is this one but its worth double checking. I have checked my receipt and it doesn't say which one I bought. I seem to remember that Furby H/Us are Grundig and not Blaupunkt but they definately work.
