Knocking noise when breaking

Featured Replies

When I break hard I can hear a knocking noise coming from the rear of the car, as the car slows down the rate of the knocking slows down too. It seems to be intermittent it may happen the first time in any given day when I break hard and not the next time. The car is less than a week old and has covered 150 miles.

Anyone experienced this? Is it normal for a new Octavia when it's being run in?

Thanks in advance

To clarify, when I'm just driving in a sedate way around town using gentle breaking I don't hear this noise at all.

Are you sure it's at the back? Do you know how ABS feels? Or it's a different feeling? ABS can shake your foot and knock badly if full power braking.

If it's at the rear check if some stones or anything is stuck on rear disks between the pads.

There's no vibration in the peddle so I don't think it's the abs. I'm not breaking hard enough to lock up the wheels I think maybe 50% of full breaking. And it's defo at the rear.

Anyone got any other suggestions?

I'm not taking the P but have you anything loose in the boot or in the rear seat well?
