My brothers 51 plate octavia tdi has developed what seems to be the known indicator relay problem and after reading various posts on this could someone please confirm that if i order a new hazard warning button from skoda this will sort it ?Or is the relay something completely different ?

The same relay is used for the normal indicators and the hazard flasher - the relay action is changed over by pressing the hazard switch.

My indicators became intermittent about two months ago and the problem was fixed by changing the hazard flasher unit.

The part number is 1U0 953 235 B. Cost was £32.95 inc VAT from local Skoda dealer. See Haynes manual for how to get the old one out without damaging the dash. I guess mine had been replaced before because I jut pulled with my fingers and it came out - the plastic clips were not engaged.

I took the old one apart and the cause of failure was stickiness on the the moving arm of the relay. It operated on 13.5V but not at 12.5V. I guess it was just an accumulation of fine dirt and perhaps some wear metal.

Edit. The red triangle on the dash is the front face of the relay assembly. This is the part quoted and comes with the red triangle.
