Skoda Superb Combi blows front tire in moose test

Featured Replies

Easy.....look closely......5 adults in car plus luggage???......low profile tyres....18" rims??? Tyre gets pinched if you slow it down and look at front drivers(their) side, this is the one that goes!! B)

They have different tyres over there too, and Skoda now recommend some real high tyre pressures.

As for the UK, I would not read too much into it unless you run winter tyres with a fully laden car.

Basiclly what the guy from Skoda is saying, is that they don´t know why it happend, but it had to do with rim size, tire size and weight (what a surprise). He says they have stopped selling 18" until they have some results from why it happend. They have a list over who has 18" on that car in Sweden and are ready to notify them if someting has to be done. He tells them not to worry.

The video is nearly a year old, so I suppose they have come up why.

I could not spec my 4x4 with 18" from the dealer, I was told it could not be combined with bad road package. Don´t know if this has anything to do with the moose test though.

I read the conclusion of why it happend later. Apparantly it was loaded to much and had to low tire pressure. They also mentioned something about the grease used for mounting the tire on the rim having something to do with it

double post, sorry

They sell 18" here again ;-) It's important that you have the right tyre pressure ;-)

The car was loaded to its maximum load by the specification from Skoda. Apparently Skoda had not taken in to the calculation of all the extra equipments weight and therefore the car was too heavy, exceeding its maximum design load with 18 inch rims. Alla other sizes of rims passed without problems.
