Self Service Kit - Mk1 Fabia vRS

Featured Replies

As per the thread title really.

Old faithful is now on 147k miles and it's resale value is greater as parts. I have been thinking of late about how much longer I should concern myself with having it serviced at a garage and whether to adopt a self servicing regime that I can fit into my schedule as and when it suits me.

I have full VCDS and am happy that I can reset service indicator etc.

Do any of our sponsors offer a service kit that would include all the right filters, oil, sump plug etc for carrying out your own oil change service?

I'd be more confident carrying it out with the knowledge that I could buy a kit with everything I needed included for a sensible price from one source.

I understand that garages/sponsors may perceive this as doing themselves out of the labour aspect, but surely a market opportunity for those who want to adopt a self service regime no?

Plenty of parts suppliers to choose from. A1 Motorstores, Euro Carparts, and even dealers.

Opie oils for oil and filter

Then your local dealership for the rest

You dont exactly need much!!

I service mine, as I don't really trust many garages.........Write up in service book what I've done and staple in receipts, plus it's a lot cheaper than doing it properly. I bery much doubt potential customers in the future would be bothered if you explained your servicing to them , and backed it up with reciepts.

Find your local TPS and just buy genuine:

. Oil filter

. Fuel filter

. Air filter

. Quantum Oil (Used on a VW service)

. Sump nut/washer.

Last time I did an oil/oil filter change it cost £30 in parts.

I do the same staple the receipts in and stick my phone number in the stamp box....

Plenty of places to get the parts you need. I started servicing my MK4 Golf once it hit 150k, used to cost me about £45 for all the bits including Oil and a few hours on a Sunday morning. It's actually quite satisfying doing the work yourself. If it wasn't for the warranty on my vRS I'd be doing the same now.

I'd get the parts from a local motor factors place, I've found them to be much cheaper than the service packs from Opie/Eurocarparts.

It's about time you got your spanners out Barrie. Oils and filers are easily available.
