Just wanted to check a couple of things with you before purchase of VRS...

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Just been to look at a 2005 Fabia VRS in Black Magic and have agreed to purchase.

Mechanically it seems sound with a good full service history file, cambelt change, etc although needs some cosmetic TLC in the form of a few parking dings and scratches... can sort that myself no problem (Pro Detailer) but two things I wanted to check with you:

1. Is it normal for these engines to breath quite heavily from the oil cap / dipstick when running?

2. The battery light occasionally flashes under hard acceleration ... any ideas what it could be?

Car drives perfectly and feels tight and responsive ... I've agreed a price of £4000 for it. Does this seem reasonable?

Cheers!

I don't know about the heavy breathing from the oil cap/dipstick but the battery light will probably be a loose connection somewhere.

£4k sounds ok, what milage has it got ?

Battery / load sensor wire

1. some spluttering from the dipstick/oil filler is normal but depends how bad, you could compare it with another VRS, or may be the breather pipes are blocked. Its unusual for for these engines to develop major internal failures as long as the correct VW PD oil is used when serviced.

2. What Jase means, the wire to the alternator often breaks on VAG cars its an easy fix or the alternator/battery is on its way out.

If you're not happy with it there are quite a few up for sale.

The spluttering from the oil filler cap or dipstick tube is normal. There is no intake vacuum on a diesel, so the blow-by bottom end gases are forced out via a valve on the rocker cover. Battery light as mention above, it will be the load wire at the plug on the front of the gearbox.

Ok thanks Guys... Will check voltage on battery / alternator this morning before collecting...

It's done 95k miles... Ten stamps and cambelt done 2k miles ago.

It doesnt breathe too heavily just a little fumes when pop the oil cap off. Did view another VRS as well and that was the same... My Brother has an Audi A3 with same engine and that also does the same... So should be fine!

Yeh they do tend to breath fairly heavy. Goodluck :)

Well voltage was fine on battery and the battery light hasn't come on since so reckon low battery voltage is to blame...

So we now own a Fabia VRS... very impressed with it!

Got the keys off the Wife in the end as she was feeling tired so pointed the vRS down some country roads ... to say I'm impressed with the chassis is an understatement!

Absolutely brilliant ...

I've had high performance cars for years ... currently drive a modified Leon Cupra Turbo and yes the Leon is faster with better brakes but in the right hands on a twisty road the Cupra is going to take some work to keep up with the vRS!

Yeh they handle fairly well, given the weight of the diesel lump up front.

Welcome to the forum and Skoda ownership. :D

You can easily make the car faster to keep up with the Cupra by updating the ECU's software. ;)

Maybe it is already remapped.
