Check your brake light switch is working correctly, if they are then the cc stalk can be easily dismantled, give it a good clean with some contact cleaner.

Failing both of those, you will need a VCDS scan of the car.

is there a how 2 on removing and cleaning the cc stalk as mine has stopped working aswell

Mines hasn't been working since i bought the car!

This maybe a silly question but how do you check if your brake light switch is working correctly? My brake light work!

My Elegance cruise control stopped working and was replaced by dealer under warranty this was way back in 2007. Since then at intervals it stops again but I am use to this as because a while later it comes back again .A point about the CR is I am one of those which use it most of the time, I would not be without it.

With VCDS, you can check the cruise, brake and clutch switches are working at MB 66.2 and 66.4

Thanks Eccleshill - after months of the cruise control not working, its going perfectly in time for holidays. The PDF was easy to follow and only took a few minutes.

I cleaned my cruise control pcb tracks about a year ago, and they were OILY. At the time I assumed the sliding parts had been over lubricated, and a little had migrated onto the tracks. However, a week or so ago it started going intermittent again and I removed the module again and found more oil on the tracks!

This turns out to be manufacturing 'Sabotage'! The rocker assembly switch button needs a little grease on the pivot, but the design affords a huge reservoir, and had an enormous hidden blob of grease that obviously releases its oil component when it gets hot.

I'll attempt to attach an image of the offending area, complete with yellow grease. In this pic the grease is seen almost flowing out of the pivot area (due to heat), but there's loads more inside that pivot, so washed it all out with a white-spirit soaked small paintbrush.

....

Unfortunately 'I'm not allowed to use that image extension' ....jpg.. !!?? Help! Maybe it doesn't like SkyDrive?

Try a link then....

downloaded this how to guide some time ago

Thanks for the link, it will hopefully save me some money. One of my Stalks has the same problem and was thinking of replacing the Stalk all together as I never knew it could be opened up and repaired so easily, will try it now.

If you don't have the proper cleaning fluid, I found that vodka and a cotton bud worked perfectly to remove dirt on the PCB.
