Anyone used heat wrap or had there turbo/downpipe ceramic coated?

Featured Replies

I know it helps on petrols as we do this at work but is it worth it on the downpipe to keep the heat in and get it through the exhaust and out as soon as

Or is there no point on diesels

Mu golf tdi had it

Was on a custom mani and exhaust

God knows if it actually does anything

Looks good though

At least its only one fat pipe and not a 4 branch

It is worth as it keeps the heat inside the exhaust allowing the gasses to move faster, which improve power and reliability, ceramic is best but it comes at a price, but, you got to be careful as this can lead to the exhaust or turbo to overheat.

Do you have a standard down pipe?

No it's a magnex decat with the flexi pipe

Sounds like your reading off the packet! :giggle:

In all seriousness, yes, it probably helps keep the heat in, and should prevent heatsoak in hot conditions. This is especially true on classic VW engines (where I've seen it before), as the exhaust manifold kinda wraps back around the engine.. However, do you really want some absorbant fabric wrapped around your expensive stainless steel, potentially trapping water against the metal?

More of an issue on low mileage classics, but still - I wouldn't use it on mine. Until I move somewhere really sunny at least

Busted

I'm tempted to do this...

Diesel turbos don't normally get as hot as petrol ones hence only being oil cooled not oil and water like petrol tubbies.

I looked into this and even turbo dynamics said its not worth it on a diesel tbh
