Retro fit Xenon lights on 2011 Octavia vrs petrol

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Now want Xenon headlights on my 20011 Octavia VRS. Can you retrofit these units without invalidating the warranty. If so, where and at what cost.

If you want to retro fit an OEM type system this will be very expensive (if not prohibitvely so). You can buy HID conversion kits (a HID bulb and ballast that fits inside your existing lights). Many have done it on here but you need to make sure they are set up right so you do not dazzle oncoming traffic. There is also a question mark over their legality but most seem to think this is not an issue. You also I believe need to recode the car to accept the new bulbs as I seem to remember the so called CanBus friendly ones can damage the computer/wiring loom.

As far as warranty is concerned it will only affect it on the things directly affected by the modification. Hence if you did damage the electrics in some way then this would not be covered but if a wheel bearing failed then it would since the change in lights would have not impact on this item.

Its cost prohibitive I'm afraid.

You need the light clusters, ballasts and igniters and a new wiring harness, these alone will be easily £2,000 brand new.

In addition to this all xenon equipped cars by law need the headlight wash system and the automatic self-leveling system which is a huge job both in terms of parts and the labour needed to fit them.

It would have been much easier and cheaper to spec them from new.

It is possible to fit an aftermarket HID kit for a lot less but again new legislation requires that you have the washers and leveling to pass an MOT.
