Scary pipe/sensor problem

Featured Replies

Hi, I could really use some help guys.

I removed the wheels to check the health of my brake pads, and I found something strange behind the front left disc.

I won't try to explain, hopefully the pictures will speak for themselves. I really don't think that a pipe with a duct tape end would be factory default.

However, I don't feel like it would affect the breaking efficency, it's pretty normal to me. Even the ABS system seems to work properly.

The whole situation is a mistery for me. I hope it won't cost thousands to repair it.

Oh, and I haven't got any warning lights on on the instrument panel.

Any help would be really appreciated.

Cheers

I have something very similar where the last person to change the front pads didn't bother to renew the wear sensor so twisted the wires together and taped them up to stop the warning light on the dash - nothing to worry about

Looks like the brake pad wear sensor wire has snapped off from the pad and been tie-wrapped up out of the way.

i assume your talking about the metal bracket coming off the strut with the connector at the bottom? thats just the pad sensor wire, its obviously just got pads fitted that didnt have the sensor so they have left the old connector attached as to not bring the pad warning light on

No and you won't, well not for low friction material on your brake pads

The cable is for the brake pad wear indicator. However you are in lucky as the as the loom and socket is there, as is the plug and wire (which is normally part of the pad with the sensor built in). So when you come to replace the pads in the future you can just remove the old cut of section of wire and plug and plug in your new one.

fwiw: the Octy only has a wear indicator on the front nearside inside pad.

What a relief, thank you ever so much. I imagine the wear indicator is not so important with regular checkings, then. Very good.

Cheers, everyone
