Calculating Offset

Featured Replies

I'm about to order some new wheels but really don't wanna **** this up.

At the moment I have 7J Octavia vRS Spiders with 15mm spacers to clear my brakes. I find that 7J wheels are too thin. After driving Ross' car with 7.5J S3 wheels and different tyres the difference seemed night and day so it makes me want to get wider wheels.

However, Comp Mo 6's only come in 7J or 8J. Not 7.5J.

Ross said his car scrubs lots with S3 wheels (7.5J) so I'm really worried about getting 8J. However, if I stretch a 205 tyre over it then surely it will rub less than a 7.5J as the profile is made smaller? Is that right?

At the moment I'd say the Spiders with 15mm spacers sit about right, they scrub a bit on the outside edge but never on the inside. If I go an inch wider on the inside and then have the same tyre stretched over it then hopefully it will cure the scrubbing on the outside.

Does anyone have 17 x 8J wheels on their car? If so, what tyres are you running, what offset and how low are you? How much do you rub?

The wheels will be near enough £1,200 after tyres and fitting so I really don't wanna get this wrong.

If you're going to be using the same width tyres, how's it going to help?

The thing with stretching tyres is they break traction easier. If your driving it like a loon then it could come unstuck. I can't see the offset of the new wheels anywhere which would help

Pip_vrs has 8j 17" Rotas on his car. think they are ET35 and is one of the lowest cars on here.

The wheels are within 5mm of the strut, but fit and look good.

Pretty sure he runs 205/40 Yoko Paradas (awesome tyre in the dry BTW!)

I'd suggest an offset around ET30. Don't go near ET20 at the front. My car is currently about the same height as yours, so if you go to a lower offset, I promise that you'll be smacking the front arches like I did in the final days wearing the twists (at ET20).

Thought you were going to drive to the HQ to get the right fitment??? If you're still going do that, gimme a shout if you need a second opinion on the day

S3 wheels fit perfect at 7.5j

Its all about being sensible

If you are retarded and think your car looks awesome and handles well slammed to the deck then of course your going to rub.. Its simple physics

No issues on s3 wheels what so ever

Also sure rossey had spacers on them lol
