Tyre or wheel bearing?

Featured Replies

About 3 weeks ago a noticed a wherring/droning noise coming from front of car. I wasn't sure if it was right or left but I had had a puncture repaired on the passenger side and it may have been under pressure for a while. The noise is 2 toned and louder when cornering.

My 1st thought was that the tyre was damaged and causing the noise but I visited my local tyre place this afternoon and he jacked the car up and spun the wheel and did something behind wheel, He said it was the wheel bearing on the passenger side.

I phoned my Skoda dealer to ask about prices and they quoted £202 all in. I phoned 2 "back st" garages and they quoted £165 and £180, which made the Skoda price look quite good in comparison. After thinking for a while I wondered if it could be covered by the warranty?

Its a 59 plate 1.6tdi facelift with 61,000 miles (taxi).

Does the warranty cover wheel bearings? I know my old MK2 1.9 did 250,000 without any wheel baering getting replaced.

Any advise please

Regards

Kyle

The warranty is only 3 years or 60k miles (whichever comes first) anyway, eitherway I would expect them to say that was fair wear and tear.

As they may.. however, I do think the warranty is two years: THEN IF under 60.000 miles it continues to three years or 60.000 miles whichever comes first.

Actually the UK warranty is 2 years Unlimited mileage or 3 years 60,000 miles.

I would approach the dealer about it but im sure they will say its fair wear and tear.
