Cam belt/Maf/Fault codes.

Featured Replies

Hi, new to here so thanks to all help already,

In brief. . .

I have an Octavia 2.0 Tdi VRS (PD) '57 and love it, but it failed to start once. Came up with fault code for Cam sensor, hence went to garage to change it. Bigger job than I thought so replaced cam belt at same time, good job as it was a tooth out on valve timing, which could have been fault code. Anyhow while doing gave MAF a quick clean.

Now cam belt made big difference runs well smoother, but lost all grunt. Shortly after Engine light came on. Ran diagnostic, read MAF and EGR fault codes, so figured cus I cleaned the MAf hence just cleared codes. Still lacking grunt, next day light came back on, used Vag-Com, fault codes Rear evaporation fan short to plus, ABS inlet valve front left short to plus, solenoid valve 1 short to ground. Strange all new and different codes.

I was sus of the MAF as I cleaned it, it gives constant reading of 0 now plugged in, but does give correct default values unplugged. I thought firstly it was knackered but strange how I get different fault codes. I checked the fuses all seem fine, but I dont know which is to MAF.

Thanks,

Mike

Wow nothing,

well I have done some digging and believe it is a broken MAF. I think the cheap cable I purchesed is reading the code wrong to Vag-Com as both VW and my local garage read them both ad MAF and EGR valve. I swapped the MAF with a new one to try and it gave me a reading, swapped it back and it reads 0. Clearly at fault. What is strange though as it didnt give me any performance improvement. I will save and get a new MAF then see how it runs over time.
