Windscreen coating wax type stuff

Featured Replies

Along with my squeaky clean car this stuff was put on windscreen to repel water etc. Please note this was applied in Northern Ireland then car driven to Holland having sat on open top deck of a stupid ferry getting blasted by the Irish Sea for 8 hours car was caked in salt then driven another 13 hours straight to McDonalds which I am just leaving in vid somewhere in Holland. Coating should last 2 years or 45000km and is ment to be there to stay also makes it hard for ice to attach to screen

looked like this getting back to car off ferry

Vid was taken by place that did application as a demonstration of its ability and endurance.

Best watched in FULL SCREEN

Yes and no its a similar result but this last a good bit longer ive used rain X on my lid and cars before but never lasts as long as this is ment to only time will tell, Rain X in my experience more or less washes off over time this stuff is a single application that is ment to last and perform its also used on aircraft for its quality. Id imagine for constant protection over 28 years youve used more than 14 coats of rain x.

I'll stick with RainX too...until it runs out anyway

Re-application is very easy..so durability is not a comsideration for me

Thanks for the post

Well in all that time I have only used 4 bottles, would have used less, but have obliviously changed cars , and they did invent the stuff back in 72

I've used rain-x in the past - on my esprit it was great as the rake of the screen meant that you hardly ever needed to use the wiper, which was good given that it was pretty crap!

If you pop some on the bumper and lights also it stops the summer fly splats from sticking as much.

Not felt the need for it on my octavia tbh.

Got it on my Octavia, I've used it on all of my cars since about 1995. It's a 'love/hate' thing with many people but I like it. It tends to get a bit smeary when the compond ages & breaks down, you really need to glass cut it all off then re-apply, worth the effort though.

FUBAR that's not a speed camera detector on your windscreen is it? Just in case you're driving into France: "off topic I know, but worth a mention":

Radar detectors are illegal in France whether in use or not. If you are caught with such equipment in your vehicle, you are liable to a fine, confiscation of the device and the vehicle. You should therefore ensure radar detectors are removed from your vehicle before commencing any journey to France.

Under articles L413-2 and R413-15 of the French 'Code de la Route' (highway code), it is strictly forbidden to have such devices in cars in France, regardless of whether or not they are in use. Penalties can include fines of up to €3,000, confiscation of the device and of the vehicle.

This legislation does not apply to satellite navigation systems (SatNav or GPS). These can tell motorists only the location of fixed speed cameras, data which is already in the public domain.

Only slightly off topic!! :dull:

Nope its another camera :p  its more or less EU wide the speed camera detectors thing not just the cowards and some nations include sat navs in that for data base stored locations too. But I record all forward motion in HD at all times have been for 3 years.

yea thats the stuff their G1 Nano I think its called

I can't remember what it is called, but I was told of one product which was great on glass. It came in a long thin applicator type thing and you snapped a capsule to make it work. I was told it was much better than RainX which I've used in the past.

I have it, it comes with a couple of make up cotton pads for applying.

It comes in the smallest of bottles (15ml) and is enough to do all glass on a couple of cars!! It just don't seem possible. :)

What camera did you fit and was it expensive?

I am coming around to the idea of doing that as it settles so many disputes as to what did or didn't happen.

cheap as chips wee thing off ebay LOADS on there mine was £49 all in a while ago 720p but its fairly basic has a flip down lcd screen etc and takes SDHC mem cards has motion detect etc so it will start recording automatically when someone walks past car at night and when you turn car on starts recording automatically too ive had a couple of "FLIPPING CLOSE" ones with people pulling out not looking in last month or so and having the camera documenting it all if the worst had of happened would have put me a lot more at ease ...no idea on how it would work in an evidence legal way but id think if at the scene of an accident you handed entire thing over to police then no one can say it was messed with after the event.

Insurance companies all over the world recognise these and offer them for big discounts on policies why we don't yet is beyond me

if mine breaks im after this one next has GPS logging so it will on google maps etc show where you went at time of footage and speed etc awesome bit of tech for little money

Thanks for that I have bookmarked it for when I find some cash !

I am surprised these haven't taken off more. There was already at least one case where a motorist was convicted of assaulting a cyclist based on filmed evidence from one of these. Now if it could detect which car had done the damage in the supermarket car-park then it would be even more useful.
