whistling/squealing sound, no boost :(

Featured Replies

Was driving home today and all of a sudden heard a sound that sounded like a police siren, turned stereo off and could hear it was getting louder when I pressed the accelerator. Also no boost.

I'm guessing its the turbo, just wondered if anyone could confirm or knows if it is something else?

Thanks

Smee

Checked the hoses? If theyre ok then id imagine its the turbo.

Can't see anything obvious, all hoses look okay...

Next question, looking for a decent mechanic in South Yorkshire to fix this, can anyone recommend one?

EDIT: Just driven it about 2 miles, still just as bad, engine light on now as well.

suppose it could be in limp mode for a reason. Have you had the codes read using vcds?

Not yet but I'm going to try and get it looked at tomorrow. Really not too chuffed looking at the price of a turbo replacement though...

You might be able to get away with simply having yours rebuilt rather than going to the expense of a new one.

That'd be great but I need the car running asap, I work as a field engineer for a software company and average about 120 miles a day :/

In that case then, it's probably worth looking at an exchange on a recon unit. You pay for the recon turbo, get it fitted, then send back your old one. Once they receive your old turbo you get a partial refund on your original purchase.

Where would be a good place to source one? I've looked at Turbo Dynamics' page and they aren't cheap :/
