What drive shafts and CVs for a VRS?

Featured Replies

I was wondering if anyone knew what outer CVs from other cars were the same as the Fabia VRS. Also what other cars have the same complete shafts, CVs, boots, etc etc.

I have an outer CV that's on it's last legs and the CV boot has seen better days. I was thinking it might be easier to chuck in a complete shaft from a scrappers rather than try and fix and bodge.

I'd like to try and get a shaft picked up this weekend if I can.

Just get a new exchange shaft with joint on! Getting one from a scrapper is false economy as it could be already/about knackered.

How much is an exchange shaft?

I've never heard of doing that? I assume it's swapping a busted part and a few quid for a good one.

I'd be able to inspect one from a scrapper anyway. I would know if it was better than my own.

never done a fabia one but i did my old 206. Basically you buy the new unit complete and it was less than £100 and then return the fubar one for cash back. Think it cost around £70 all in, in the end.

OK I patched up my CV boots the last time but know it's all gone a bit pear shaped. Looks like my passengers side shaft is on the way out.

So what shafts are the same from other cars? I'd rather get 2 decent ones from a scrappers complete.

No such thing as an exchange from skoda.

Give these guys a ring m8, only place i could find that did a drive shaft for an octy vrs, came next day with no exchange needed. Looked brand new to me and cost £55 wit 2 year warentty My link

I could try them as a last resort. The thing is, I kind of need my car on the road and I need the driver shaft sorted for the weekend and preferably tonight.

Phone up today and they would be there tomorrow morning, think you'd struggle to find one today m8

Looks like I've sourced a set. Hopefully they're the right ones. I'm sending a mate to lift them shortly.

Are you anywhere near unit 18? Great guys up there and cheap as chips.

Not too far. About 400 miles and across the irish sea.

Practically walking distance then lol.

Yip, as long as you walk a bit faster when you get to the sea bit as it gets a bit damp in the middle.

The same driveshafts are used by the Ibiza FR (6 speed pd130) and the Cupra TDI (pd160) I actually have a cupra TDI passenger side driveshaft in mine after I snapped my oem one at the Pod....

Oh, and rarer, but I imagine the Polo "GT TDI?" PD130 also uses same ones (9n chassis)

I got myself sorted with 2 Ibiza Shafts in the end complete from a breaker for £120 all in for both of them. I was happy enough with that.

I'm not a fan of third party parts on running gear. I never have full confidence in them after a couple of past problems.

I got a genuine shaft for my vRS estate from Skoda, exchange and was just over £100 and that was for the o/s/f one which is normally more expensive, I was quite surprised.

Got a mechanic mate fitting for £20 so if it is kack - I will return it and be 20 quid and some hassle down.
