tyres date stamped 2004

Featured Replies

what is the life of a tyre (properly stored, unused) in years? I'm sure there was a new law comming out expressing this.

anyone?

4 years springs to mind......

In the caravan world it is reckoned to be 5 years.

I wouldn't risk using tyres older than 5 years old. But I would ask an local tyre fitter to check.

I am using 2004 Proxes T1S at the moment. Came in VGC on a set of alloys stored in a shed, so no damage/sun damage at all. I'll be through them soon though.

I've seen yours they are in good nick, I had a chance at some cheap T1S's too, I'm looking at Khumo's, again, stored properly (pumped up on alloys and never used on a vehical)

hhm they say premature ageing can happen at 6 years, these haven't been exposed to elements... may give 'em a go.

And they also say that they need to be in use to prolong their life.........

6 years is usually recommended life of a tyre once on the car. If the tyres have been stored in temperatures that have not been too high or low for long periods and kept out of the sunlight (UV) then they should be OK. I changed the tyres on the Wife's old Fabia at 6 years (34,000 miles)because the fronts started to go out of shape, they still had 5mm of tread and no cracks, in fact they had just passed on the MOT.
