Driving Miss Daisy

Heading to work on Wednesday, suddenly realised I had meant to get diesel the night before as my remaining miles were very close to the mileage I would be doing that day.

Decided instead to see how far I could actually eek out the miles for once, so sat at a nice 65 on the motorway as I had plenty of time and just enjoyed my tunes.

In the end, over a 40 mile journey, averaged 63mpg - not bad for something that also has a decent turn of speed.

I know we don't buy vRSs purely for fuel economy, but i'm sure it's a factor to some people.

Anyone beat that?

I averaged 80.3MPG on my 15 mile journey to work the other day - that was by sitting at 60 for the 10 mile motorway bit and and driving very carefully in the other parts of the journey, 2 miles of which are down some quite steep hills. The vRS is awesome for economy it's just sometimes a bit too tempting to hit the gas.

Last year I one averaged 57 mpg on a 300 mile journey (Dover to home), I can regually get 60 mpg on the way to Redcar (approx 8 mile). My highest in my car for that journey was at one point 67 mpg, then at the end 65 mpg. However, my Tankful average is normally between 45-50 mpg.

My Father once averaged this on a that journey in a PD100 Fabia:

12/4/2010, 9°C, 8 miles, average 25mph. He said, If he hadn't stopped for 3 sets of Traffic lights, it would have been at least 95 mpg.
