engine starts but wont rev till warm

Featured Replies

hi everyone ive got a 52 plate octavia vrs, problem is when i start the engine it wont rev or drive until the engine has warmed up, if i attempt to drive it would kangeroo and hesitate for about a minute, ive got a auto electrician coming on monday but was wondering if someone on here had had the same problems that im having, any help would be greatly appreicated.

cheers

It's more than likely the coolant temperature sensor playing up. When it goes, the ECU thinks the engine is warm, so runs rough as hell till it warms up, then it will be OK. The sensor is about 25 quid from skoda.

Hi cheers mate but I've already tried the coolant sensor and it's still running rough

has it been replaced though?

sounds like you need to get it scanned for fault codes

Yes , it can stor the code , even though it has been changed

but also check the 2 hoses that are common , dont know if that will effect it when cold or warm , but another 2 common issues

This will show you where they are

Did you fit a genuine CTS? If not get one as I & many others have had problems with cheap aftermarket CTS's.

hi, cheers for the responses, yes it was a genuine cts but as it didnt make any difference the guy that fitted it removed it, as it didnt seem to solve the problem.

do you mean that even with a new sensor fitted it would still run lumpy until the fault code had been reset, and it could still be the sensor thats causing the problem? i will check with the link posted and see if the pipes are perished aswell

thanks for your help

Faulty CTS doesn't always throw a fault code. You really need to get VAGCOM on it & look to see if the ECU is getting the correct reading from the cts. It's also worth you doing a throttle body clean as that often solves lumpy & jerky throttle response, but not usually temp dependent. 90% of the the time the symptoms you describe are down to the cts failing.

I forgot to ask you was the replacement CTS black or green?

It was a green one and the oil breather pipe is split

Aswell, just as a side note the climate control is completely dead would a code reader tell me what's wrong with that aswell?

Thanks for all your help

Get you auto electrician to check the cts wiring for continuity. If you put the old black cts back in change it for a green one as it will fail. You also need to replace the breather pipe asap.

If your climate control is completely dead obviously check the fuse hasn't blown. VAGCOM does diagnose the climate control too.
