New vrs tsi oil consumption ?

Featured Replies

Had my new vrs tsi 2011 model since new in April covered 1600 miles so far and have used a litre of oil is this normal ???? Thanks in advance for replies ??

Engines do vary but my 1.8TSI has covered nearly 16,000 mile in 3 years and I've had to top just half a litre since new. It's had only one variable service (next one due in September according to the computer) so mine drinks practically no oil at all.

I'm interested in this too. I have no idea what car to get when I eventually sell up but the Tsi Vrs ticks all the boxes but I'm worried by oil consumption. Mine likes a drop but if I am to upgrade I don't want an oil guzzler.

In 6k miles mine hasn't used a drop. Remapped from day 2 / 140 miles.

There is it seems huge variation between the same engines as has been said. I have one of the first vrs Tsi engines in the LE and in 2 1/2 years and nearly 15k miles I've only needed to top up around 3/4 litre of oil. The good news is I think there is no right or wrong amount here (othere than extremes of course) and as long as the performance is still spot on don't worry about it...

Did you check the oil when the car was delivered. Are you sure it was topped up to the same mark you have topped up to?

My 2011 TSI 'lost' 1 lt of oil at 3000 miles, so topped up with Castrol Edge and it has not lost anymore. Now at 5000 miles.

I assumed it would have the right amount of oil in from the start, but didnt check until 6 weeks of having the car, so it may have been in spec, but at the bottom end. I like to keep it just above the shaded area of the area on the dipstick.

1 litre of oil consumed in 18,000 miles in my 2010 vRS TSI.

Less than half a litre in 28,000 miles (oil change of course but no movement on the dipstick)

Thanks folks for swift replies I didn't check the oil when I picked it up only after the first 300 miles or so think I'll keep monitoring it and see how things go had many brand new cars over the years and have never had to top oil up till about 8k or so that's why this threw me a little on balance tho what a great car made up with it !!

mine needed .75l after 6000 miles but none since. Now on 10K

I've done 1028 miles in my 2011 Fabia vrs, checked the oil yesterday and there is next to none in it?? It's on the bottom marker on the dipstick, phoned the dealer they said it wasn't normal but didn't say they wanted to look at it, they also said 5/30 fully synth to top up does that sound right??

i remember hereing somewhere that the oil consumption on TSi engines is 1 litre to 1000 kms (or miles not sure which way round).... ???

anything above this then the dealer will look in to it, but what they do is drain and top up the oil, you have to run the car for 1000 kms or miles take it back and then they have to do a consumption test, depending on there findings they either say NFF , or further investigation required

Not the same motor in mine (a BXE in a 1.9 diesel with 15k miles from new), but I found that if I tried to keep the oil at the max, i.e. just below the top 'kink' on the dipstick and above the top of the hatched bit on the stick, it used to go down quite fast (in around 1k miles) to the top of the hatched area. However, once it got there, it didn't use any more, so now that's where I keep it, and no top-ups needed now.

For how long though? I mean if it's for 10,000 miles then all skoda are doing is using people on pcp finance (initial 3 year deal with a 10,000 mile limit) to run their motors in for them and pay for the oil in the process so that skoda don't have to, and the oil ain't cheap!!

My 60 plate Octy vRS has used a litre in 9500 miles, that said, it used it quite early on, and now seems to have settled.

My wifes 10 plate fabia 105 used no oil at all between collection and 1st service.

I do check both quite regularly

Sounds similar to mine. Topped up a full litre early on, but seems ok now.

Last service was early May, done about 13k miles since then and its now about halfway between the markers.

:)

Since new in march and only covered just over 3k miles I haven't used any oil, and I didn't run it in just drove it as I always have.

Mine uses about a litre of oil every 8000 miles but it has done 147000 so its to be expected.

Mark.

Bought in May 2010 and serviced yearly....just under 7K on the clock and never needed to top up the oil.

Drove it like normal from Day one

My TDi 140 has never used oil between variable services (20k miles).

I have know a few cars in the past where anything up to 1 litre of oil per 1000 miles was considered normal (Vauxhall for one). Also oil consumption is usually higher during the running in period of any machine but should settle down with a bit of use.

I bought my VRS Fabia car in November 2011 and it drinks oil for fun. I have done 13500 miles and I am now taking a close measure of the oil consumption, as the Skoda garage charge for the oil consumption test if it doesn't use more than the guarantee limit of 1ltr in 600 miles. If I had know that was the possible oil consumption I wouldn't have touched it with a bargepole. Shame on VAG. Unfortunately it looks like I will be right on the borderline.

did u nanny it when you were running it in? do u ever red line it? you should not have to top more than twice between service so maybe go back to supplying dealer under soga.

Well nearly a year later since my last post above...........and I still havent had to top up any oil between services !

Driven hard since day 1 !

I didn't nanny it from new, but then didn't thrash it either. I drove it and still do in the same manner as I used to drive my Subaru Impreza before it. Well maybe not quite as hard :) as the whole idea was to get something almost as quick but with twice the fuel economy which it is.

My driving routine is 22 miles a day looking to get good economy for the trip to work (39.2 mpg shown on overall average with occasionally hitting 50mpg on the trip average) with the occasional quick start from the lights or an overtaking burst.

What I have noticed recently is that if I accelerate hard after hitting a small bump in the road then it blast out the oil in a cloud at the rear. I am wondering if the engine is splashing the oil upwards inside it. Perhaps there is a Briskoda member mechanic, that might comment on this. If it wasn't for the oil consumption this engine would be the dogs bo...cks
