locking problems

Hi to all!

I have a 55 reg octavia estate 1.9 tdi and am having some problems with the remote locking. The key works fine when you are close up to the car, or hold and press over the windscren, but will not work from distance anymore. I have done the obvious and changed the batteries ( twice for luck ) but still not functioning. I have carried out the procedure as per the owners book but still nothing. I have also tried following the link posted up on here but think that may be for an earlier model. Any ideas? It is really starting to anoy me now.....

p.s. this is the same with both keys....
