Finishing touches when washing car

Featured Replies

I got the towel today, washed the motor & used the towel. Very happy with 1st impressions. I'm chuffed with this. Thanks for the help.

Just need to sort out the next level of finishing touches. ;)

Your welcome. Just make sure this is not the start of OCD Detailing bug or by the end of it you will end up with 100's of pounds worth of bottles and boxes and stuff....

At the moment I am try to convince myself I don't need a pressure washer and snow foam kit..

Rinse the car, spray on Meguiars Last Touch and wipe over with a microfibre cloth....job done and it looks good too

Go on, treat yourself. You know you want to. There's something very satisfying in covering your car in foam.

If youare going to end up down at your local garage queueing up to use their power washer at £4 a go then the investment in your own kit might make more sense.

It is a dangerous slope though, soon you will be getting the engine cleaner and peanut butter out . . .

Friends,

I do appreciate all your comments regarding washing the car.

I can't for the life of me understand why there is a hatred for chamois? Now I happen to have a damn good one, which was unused until the second time I washed my Skoda. When I've finished, I don't have dried spots or streaks. The car even looks good in the rain, mine is Anthracite Grey. It seems everyone here likes to spend! Don't get me wrong, I love spending as much as the next guy. Besides, my wife, she say no, no, NO!! What is swmbo folks?

At the moment, I still wash my Doblo with the brush that I used to wash a motorhome, which I no longer have. I only ever polished the Doblo once. It has scratches and chips all over the place, so do I need to treat it better? :smirk:

Frank.

Well possibly for the winter, at the moment is not really needed.

No car's never been near a car wash machine and I wash it with a hose and the two bucket method. Still managed to pick up some marks / scratches though. It certainly shows up the marks more than my (past) BMW.

If you're a member at Costco they do a big bag of microfibre drying towels for about £15.00

I had a box of goodies (£100) arrive this week for when the Skoda turns up in a couple of weeks, but did I need any of them, probably not, have I already got too many goodies, probably, but hey, its a new car so it deserves it, its probably one of teh largest investments I will ever make (bar my house) so it deserves a bit of special treatment, but couldnt wait to use the goodies that arrived this week so used them today on teh wifes Beetle and wow, that is now looking superb! No car wash could ever get it like how it is now, and it only took me 4 hours, job done, just a fortnightly wash now that will take 30-40 mins including a quick hoover.

Hi Octygone,

thank you very much for that link you supplied; very appreciated.

How much time I spend on car cleaning, depends on the condition of my back - period. Anyways, after washing a car - or 2, then I'll definitely have to go indoors for a lie down after taking a tablet.

With the little knowledge I have, I've been trying my best to keep my vehicles clean. For nearly 6 years, the motorhome - while I had it - took precedence. My Fiat Doblo may not look its best, as it has chips and scratches in many places, but I have kept it mechanically sound, as I'm an idiot regarding my cars. Any squeek and I'm on the phone to the dealer. I believe my Doblo drives almost as well as the day I bought it.

Since joining Briskoda, after ordering my Octavia, I've been blessed with the amount of information, my fellow members have freely provided. Especially regarding looking after the vehicle. It is my intention to keep my Skoda as clean as possible. How I do that when winter comes - I shall have to wait and see!! :D

Frank.
